    Thinking of selling my amp soon. Would like to know how much I can
    sell it for, so I know what I can afford.
    
    Yamaha A-320. One of the first (only??) Minimalist Japanese amplifiers
    to come on the market. I bought it for �90, just before it went up to a
    �100. It has inputs for Tape Monitor,Video/Aux,CD,Tuner and Phono.
    It also has no tone controls, which is in line with it's minimalist
    style. It has a black front, and has a good reputation for a good
    sound.
    
    I am selling it because, I would like to upgrade to something a
    little better. This will be in line with further upgrades that I
    hope to make to my Record deck. The amplifier has a great sound,
    that is powerful and very clear, and makes a great start to a system.
    I have had it for two years now, and it sounds the same now as it
    did then. If you drop me a mail, I will be glad to demonstrate it,
    if you live near to Basingstoke.

    Sony HAT-10 moving coil step up transformer, identical to the Ortofon
    T5. The transformer is actually two small boxes, each with a
    gold-plated phono socket and plug, which go in-line with the normal
    record player phono leads.
    
    It gives about 20dB gain, boosting most moving coil cartridges up
    to a sufficient level to drive a moving magnet input, and can be
    used with most so-called high-output mc cartridges to good effect
    as it also provides an impedance match.
    
    The little beast(s) allow(s) the owner of a modest mm-only integrated
    amp to enter the mc world cheaply and effectively; even if an
    integrated amp has an mc input it's usually a compromise, and this
    device allows the use of the usually-better mm input.
    
    There are better mc step-ups, but only for several hundred �s.

    Stereo, 3-3/4 or 7-1/2 ips, 7inch spools, pair of built-in speakers

    Should work well in arms like the Rega RB250 or RB300, or the Linn
    LVX Plus (of course!), although these are probably minimum level.

    I was keeping this as a spare if my Asaka died for any reason.

Hi,

This is on Larry Wiltshire's behalf, who is now on a sabbatical at Sequent!

He has some ESS SP-5 speakers. These are large American made speakers that
definitely reach out and grab you! The only thing is that they seem very
demanding on the amplification. They sounded much much better on an Arcam
Delta than they did on Larry's MF A-100.

Larry has decided that he doesn't want to upgrade his amp, but will change
his speakers.

These speakers rest on some �90 Linn Speaker Stands (look like Linn Sara
Stands).

    For reasons beyond my control, I have inherited a collection of QUAD
    valve gear..... main amp, pre-amp and tuner.
    
    I haven't got the smarts to get them working nor the time.
    
    I'd like to see them go to a new home and especially to someone who
    will bring these pieces back to their former glory. Nothing is
    physically broken and all the connecting wires are still with the basic
    boxes. I think that the amp is stereo, but can't swear to it. 
    
    I'm open to sensible offers for these or will trade for old machine
    tools or tooling equipment.

    Glad you liked the review.  I wrote it.
    
    If you've built one of the early versions there is a trivial, but
    important update to the psu cabling.  The original wire used to link
    the RIAA module to the psu has a rather high impedance.
    
    The solution is to either use a better cable (I used three cores of a
    ribbon cable and kept the link short), or solder a pair of 1000uF 16V
    capacitors to the +/- 15V input DIN socket to decouple the psu.
    
    The effect of the high impedance is to slug the bass and dynamics, the
    upgrade is very simple.  You may well already have done this anyway.
    
    The Hart RIAA module is really very good.

    The 104B suffers this fault.  It's normally caused by the double sided
    circuit board tracks acting like a bi-metallic strip.  Finding the
    problem and soldering the poor connection may fix it.

    As my Linn has now been fitted with the Cirkus mod, I now have a Linn
    main bearing, inner platter, subchassis, armboard, and springs 'n' 
    grommets available. 
    
    My Linn is only one year old, so the bearing has only seen about
    100-150 hours use and the rest is the latest pre-Cirkus spec. The
    leftover kit could be used to revitalise the mechanics of your ageing 
    LP12 up to the latest pre-Cirkus condition, or form the basis for a DIY
    project, at a very reasonable cost.

    I just asked the shop. Actually, my bits are cluttering up their
    stockroom until I find a buyer, so domestic tranquility wasn't an
    issue.
    
    If I don't, they'll go the way of all the others - into recycling. The
    dealer doesn't get anything back from Linn on the old parts, it really
    up to the dealer how they manage the returns.

    I am likely to have a Naim NAP140 power amp for sale in a couple of
    weeks time, as I am hoping to get a secondhand NAP250 (this is
    dependent on a chain of purchases made by other people, but is looking
    reasonably solid at the moment). The 140 is only about 18 months old,
    latest spec. etc. I think the new price is about �650, and I'd like to
    get �400 for it.
    
    I also have a Target rack for sale, I think the model number is TT6. It
    has four shelves altogether, the top one being spiked for a turntable.

    Well, I have to bid a fond adieu to my DENON TU260L tuner, but upgrade
    to a Linn Kudos forces sale.
    
    The tuner is in prime condition with all the bits, including original
    packaging and manual. Excellent reception and the sound quality was
    good enough that nothing provided a significant increase in sound
    quality (until I heard the Kudos). Even in Basingstoke, it can pick up
    Capital and Jazz FM (and many others) - that's good going!
