| Yes, they have to alter the road layout to allow entry into the new
Safeway supermarket on the old Eaton's site. Not sure how they are
going to lay it out though.

I'm not sure of the layout either, but I think I know the
Basingstoke road planners well enough to predict a complete and
utter pig's ear, with supermarket traffic queues spilling back
onto roundabout approaches, perhaps even traffic light control
(spit!) etc. etc.
We'll revisit this topic in a couple of months to see if I need
to eat my keyboard, or receive the Basingstoke 'Mystic Meg' award.

As I understand it, they are going to have super wizey slip roads,
with no impact at all to the roundabout!

| Well, today this junction was utter CHAOS!
The queues southbound went up to the A339 and lots (and I mean 100s)
of cars did U-turns across the grass on a busy dual c-way to avoid it
(even the council dust cart). Someone will be killed there soon.
I tried ringing to complain.
Basingstoke council Highways department (a helpful lady) said it was
the county council, not the local council and gave me the names of
those in Winchester responsible for it.
01962 847067 - Rob Bould (phone never answers)
846916 - Ray Morris (ditto)
Back to B'stoke again - this time advise is to complain to Bovis, the
contractors. Les Daughtrey on 01256 56794. Not tried this yet because
I think its the councils RESPONSIBILITY to sort this out. Am now
awaiting a call back from Winchesters Traffic Safty Engineer (I didn't
write his name down).
What a mess!
Jc (who spent an extra 35 minutes getting from Rooksdown to Viables).
