I've just created a WWW Basingstoke page, but realised that I've not
got a lot to put in it.

If there's anything you'd like to see in it. Let us know.

I'd like to see a Basingstoke and surrounding area pub guide,
with more information than the normal CAMRA guides provide. I can
help with the reviewing if required.

..and how about a " what's going on this week " thingy ,
for example the fireworks in the park would be current

Maybe Anvil / Haymarket Theatre info. ?

I'm sure Paul Dennis would appreciate a 'gigs around the

It's a bit sparce at the moment, I mean do you just go to the 'George'
Dave ?

I tend to agree with Watty on this. About the most exciting thing
to do in Basie is to go into the Feathers and stare at blokes with
Tatoos, finishing off with a night at the local hospital.

Liverpool's an excellent night out by the way !

Thanks Rich - the fiver's in the post...

    Basingstoke town centre has got a couple of 'reasonable' pubs;

The Wheatsheaf - sad place with disgusting beer, how a pub can ruin a
pint of Caffreys is beyond me !

The Night Jar - shuts at 9:00 - very sensible

The Bass House - full of extras from Star Trek, the bit when Kirk and Spock
land on some weird obscure planet. Admittance is refused, unless you
have a serious physical or mental defect. I believe Stuart Panes and
Tony Nash are regulars in the Bass House......

How about a topic about supermarkets? That way, when we do
get a Safeway, we'll all know where it is. Or maybe tourist
information, advising people of the quickest routes away from
Basingstoke.
807.20Doughnut cityCOMICS::WOODPathos and satire 'is' meFri Oct 28 1994 16:127
How about a guide to roundabouts, detailing all the different names
and types like the ones where you're quite happily driving along,
when suddenly the road veers off to turn left and it's another mile
before you can turn round.

How about a gig guide? There's the beginnings of one in the Gazette on
Monday, if it was in the WWW I wouldn't have to buy the Gazette :-)
Anyway they never list who's playing at Magnum's on Friday nights.

How about putting the Basingstoke Anthem on there, which received its
world premier on prime time Saturday evening television !

Take a look at some of the stuff off
http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/misc/uk/intro.html#map

Maybe you could just get Basingstoke added here with
stuff about the history - Basing House, surrounding area,
like Silchester, AWE, Eating out, take aways, pubs (note
the plural!) clubs, sports facilities. Maybe some interesting
facts about population and train timetables.

    Ian,

Thanks for the pointer, it would be a nice place to link in. However, I
believe that people outside Digital do not have access to our WWW pages
    (can anyone confirm this?)

As for the pub reviews.... When you mail them to me, I'll include them.

I heard from an ex-employee that, when the IPMT case
browser was working, non Digital employees could read
IPMT cases.

I heard from an ex-employee that, when the IPMT case

Not a problem now, of course - the browser stopped working
when the maintainer was TFSO'd a few months back. Now we've
returned to the previous situation where even the specialist
who raised an IPMT can't look at it.

Ian , the new "Buy Basie." slogan is something like "Basingstoke
    - It's a shopping Fairytale ! "

I'm afraid to say it may actually be working as I was asked by a
passing motorist (with wife and two kids) where the big shopping
center was ......I was sorely tempted to say 'get back on the M3
    ,look for "London" .....' !!!.
