Word of warning for anyone travelling to the North West from the Basingstoke area. There are major road works on the A34 just north of Newbury. They began yesterday (June 14th) and are due to go on until August. It took me over an hour to travel 4 miles yesterday.

Clarification required: Is this between Newbury and M4 or north of M4. I was planning on that sort of route tomorrow (16th) but can take an alternative. ANdy | |||||

Late for the 16th - but it might help others..... They are at East Ilsley - which is about 4 miles north of the M4. At busy times it is possible for the queues to be up to 4 miles in length! Going north, the roadworks continue with just one lane open up a steep hill.... This means that lorries etc can not get a "run up" to the hill, and so crawl up it at just 5 mph... thus causing the tremendous queues behind them. Alternatives?? M4 Junction 14 and from there direct to Wantage and / or Oxford? |
