Last Saturday My 10year old Son had his mountain bike stolen from the
Basingstoke Cinema. He sat it on the pavement to look at the adverts
outside and a teenage boy and gir roe up on another bike, the boy got
off grabbed my boys bike and was gone.
This was a very rare bike. It was a Muddy Fox Courier with a back
frame and silver writing. The bike had a full Shimano 21 gear chain
set, with alloy quick release wheels . The frame is 13" boys style
with sloping cross bar.
The week before the bike was fully serviced by Mountain Movers (the
bike was bought from them). They fitted a new back tyre is is white
walled. The front Tyre is plain black.
If anybody spots a bike that looks like this could you please let me
know where you saw it.
What I would also like to know is what do the parents say when there
offspring ride home on a 400 quid Mountain bike that is not theirs ??
The bike is insured. However my Son has finally started to lose the
innocence of childhood by realising that other children nick your
stuff.

My sympathy to you... My son had a very similar thing happen to him with a similarly priced bicycle (and I discovered my insurance policy had a �250 limit unless the bicycle was itemised) The policeman who investigated the case knew the kids doing it (my son gave an excellent description and one of those involved had distinctive features) and suspected them of being paid handsome amounts of money for passing on bicycles which were quickly shipped out of the area, then using the money on drugs. Three weeks later, they were actually caught on the job, but the police were not prepared to press charges due to the age of the individuals. The only route open to us was a civil action and the police advised us that it would likely cost us more than buying a new bicycle! (Since the culprits would never pay up, even if found guilty). Its the kind of thing that makes you want to bring back flogging!! -Mike- | |||||

Hi
Well a trip to Mountain Movers on Saturday to look for a replacement
made me feel even worse. As we were being served a Lady with young
dejected looking Son were waiting tobe served. You guessed it the same
thing had happened to them.
The chap at Mountain Movers confirmed -1. There is a chap (believed to
be from Southampton) paying around 50 quid a bike. He arrives on
Saturday in a large van and picks them up from the local scum.
The Police appear to be aware of this (spoke with them last week) but
are either unwilling or unable to do anything to put a halt to it.
My guess is that if I petrol bomb this lump of filth in his van the
Police will suddenly find that they can do something about it.

I received the following note with my household insurance
renewal over the weekend, drawing my attention to a change
in the policy:
'Pedal cycles will not be covered when left unattended away
from the home unless locked to a permanent fixture.'
I guess the problem is becoming widespread. :-(
