675.0. "Amateur Dramtics info anyone?" by WAYOUT::LOAT (1 lump or 2, it's up to you!) Tue Aug 17 1993 15:12

My other half has just moved to Basinstoke, and she's looking for some sort of
amateur dramatics society. She was a member of one back home, and she's now
getting withdrawal symptons!

I believe there's an organisation called BATS which is around Basingstoke
somewhere, but can someone give me some information about this group, what
sort of productions they put on, where they meet, who to contact etc.

Also, if somone knows of any other groups similar in Basingstoke or the
surrounding area, please tell!

Thanx

Steve.

Hi there Steve, a colleague of mine attends an amateur dramatics
society in crowthorne,i.e. CATS (Crowthorne Amateur Theatrical Soc)

    tel 0344-761957 ( secretary=John Taylor)

    they do comedies, panto's etc....

There is a new members evening on 1st Sept at Crowthorne Parish Hall
    /Methodist Hall, if you're interested.

Hope this is of any use

675.2Some Suggestions :-)CHEFS::JEANESMSmile - that'll confuse them!Tue Aug 17 1993 21:2818
    Hi Steve

BATS do mostly musicals I believe. There are a number of other
societies ie: Overton Dramatic - usually do one play and one pantomime
per year: Silchester Players - believe they do same sort of thing -
Mortimer Amat.Dram., couple of plays a year - and there are a number of
    groups in Basingstoke itself.

Sugest your partner goes to local Library - they can give full listing
of all the groups with Secretaries and Telephone Numbers.

Good Luck - I get withdrawal symptoms myself - trouble with current
workload I can't commit to being anywhere reguarly enough to rehearse.

Oh well - that's my excuse for not getting on down there anyway :-)

675.4If you want singing rather than dramatics, try BAOS !FIXER::BELLOpen your heart, I'm coming home.Wed Aug 25 1993 13:5019
... and not forgetting BAOS - Basingstoke Amateur Operatic Society !

Our schedule has been messed around recently as a result of the changes to
the Haymarket theatre (due to re-open at the start of next month) but we did
"Anything Goes" earlier this year [over at QMC] and will be back in the
Haymarket with "Oklahoma" in the first week in November ... I'll let you
know when tickets come on sale :-)

We rehearse in Basingstoke, mainly at St. Peter's church hall, South Ham.
If you live to the West of the town, you should try Overton Dramatic Society
[ODS] as they're a pretty fun bunch. To the North there's Silchester Players.
To the South, there's a group based in Alton [Alton Operatic?] but, from a
slightly biased point of view, it's worth the extra mileage to come along to
  BAOS instead :-)

Wander down sometime and I'll dig out a few details ...
