Trevor,
It is going ahead, unless local opposition and/or Basingstoke & Deane
Council decide against it.
What about the rumour of a big "Out of Town" Marks & Spencer on the
current Smiths site, opposite the Camrose Football ground, near the
Brighton Hill roundabout ??

Hi, Brian,
Thanks for the info ref Safeway. It'll be interesting to see where they
put the access road in from the ring-road. I'll have to keep an eye on
the Gazette, I'm sure they'll have info about it.
So, M & S are thinking of building on the Smiths site ?! If it's
anything like the one in Camberley it will be great.
Bye

| A friend of mine has been working on the purchase of the land for the new
Safeway.
I'll try to get the details off him. I have seen the public details, but
didn't get a copy. They are pretty major though.
Mark.

664.5 | We are getting a Safeway | KERNEL::ROSE | | Wed Oct 19 1994 06:02 | 8 |

Well, the latest news (in the Gazette on Friday) is that we are getting
a Safeway on the old Thornycrofts/Eatons site. The original plans had
to be changed because Elliott Turbo Machinery have a lease which isn't
due to run out for several years. Building work will start soon and the
store will open late next year.

| I read a review in the Mail On Sunday magazine recently.
It was on food, yogurt I think. Anyway, they reckoned
Safeway yogurt or whatever it was is crap.
