| No, they had a re-vamp recently. In my opinion, they (unbelievably) got
worse.
Each to his own...

They are not playing any rap, rave or heavy metal any more. Just
'classic oldies' and new stuff that does not come in any of the
previous categories. All very well, but I think their library of
'classic oldies' is a bit limited. It seems to be the same 3 records,
and if I hear Sleeping Satellite once more I'll go mad!

623.3 | Its a move away from Local Radio! | LARVAE::HUGHES | Black Box Operators Rule OKish | Mon Mar 22 1993 23:45 | 30 |
| Hi,
I have a feeling that the ALL NEW 2-10FM has not happened by mistake.
This is about the third change that I can remember, as 210 tries to
find the most popular programme profile. Radio 210, 210FM and now
2-10FM.
I know that Radio 210 put a lot of research into its new look as it
has tried to change its audience to a different social category,
basically one that will spend more money and so maximize advertising.
This is a phased change with more changes to come, but what we will
end up with is a common denominator, regional radio station, that
sounds like all the rest. A number of ILR stations are now the ALL NEW
Plymouth Sound, etc. This is a result of small radio stations being
bought out by larger ones.
Radio 210 was given the 102.9MHz frequency to provide a service to
Basingstoke and its surrounding areas, which I believe has not
materialised.
I wonder what will happen when Radio 210s franchise comes up for
renewal in 1996.
Having said all the above, the current format is the best I have
heard from Radio 210 since they started.
Regards,
Lawrence

I wonder what will happen when the national commercial stations start
up (Virgin Radio starts April 30th).

I'll get to tune the fifth button in on my car radio to a music station!

210FM are still not up to POWER FM's standard.....Although they appear
to have pinched some major ideas off POWER.....5 records in a row
(minus the mind warping dribble)......
Whatever happened to 20 records in a row, anyway...

| After reading this note I decided to tune in to 102.9 on the way home
last night (7pm).
I was treated to Graham Rogers telling me what a lovely day it was,
the fact that he'd taken his dog for a walk and been shopping for baby
clothes.
I don't think I'll bother again.

I listen whilst driving back and forth to work. And that is only
because my radio is a bit duff and I can't get a decent reception on any
other station. I just get fed up with the jovial banter that goes on in
the morning. You feel like you are eaves-dropping on a private party.
They seem to bring their mates in for a chat and a giggle. They have
competitions for which there are no prizes.. because 'it's the show
with no budget' they all chorus and collapse in fits of giggles,
obviously an 'IN' joke. I think I'll get my cassette player fixed.

623.10 | Its all down to the Recession | LARVAE::HUGHES | Black Box Operators Rule OKish | Thu Apr 01 1993 19:04 | 8 |
| As far as 2TEN FM being a Reading and Basingstoke station, they set up
a news centre a couple of years ago in the Pru Shopping Centre...
Then the Recession came alone and that project was canned.
Happy (or otherwise) Listening.

The contest being (I presume) for the most hideously boring radio
station in the world?
