620.0. "Hoover Deal" by LARVAE::HUGHES (Black Box Operators Rule OKish) Sun Mar 14 1993 20:39

    Hi,

Has anyone in the Basingstoke Offices (or anywhere else for that
matter) purchased a Hoover to make use of the free flights offer.

Does anyone have a phone number for Your Leisure.

If anyone has, I would be most grateful.

    Regards,

Lawrence (thinking he has been ripped off)

According to the Cook report recently, your thinking is correct (maybe
it wasn't the Cook report, but one of those other consumer programs).

Could you post the details. I remember hearing something a while ago
about buying a 100 hoover and getting 400 worth or airline tickets.

    Whats the full story ?

620.4How totally hacked off with them!LARVAE::HUGHESBlack Box Operators Rule OKishMon Mar 15 1993 22:1213
    Hi all,

Yep, I was just down stairs watching Watchdog and it has been featured
again. I think I will write to the BBC and get a phone number. The
company who is managing the ticket distribution (mis-distribution) is
called Your Leisure. They have been very clever in not leaving a phone
    number anywhere.

If I get to the US, I will let you know.

Yours (feeling soar that he has had one put over him)

So, have you got a cheap vacuum cleaner for sale????

620.6No, but there must be millions to choose fromLARVAE::HUGHESBlack Box Operators Rule OKishThu Mar 18 1993 09:5611
    Andy,

Not any more, I sold it for 10 less then I bought it and on the same
day!!! I did that because I suspect the market in second hand vacuum
    cleaners will cave in.

If you need one, there must be millions out there to choose from.

    Regards,

620.7The Final FrontierLARVAE::HUGHESBlack Box Operators Rule OKishSun Mar 21 1993 18:508
    Hi,

The final part of this story. My wife phoned Hoover and the day after,
a Yellow booking Voucher for the airline tickets turned up in the post.

    Regards,

Mentioned at the end of yesterdays Watchdog: "Tune in next
week for news of an intriguing development in the Hoover
        free flights fiasco".

An article in the Sunday papers said that Hoover had done some deals
with airlines, and has purchased 20,000 flights, and hopes this will be
	enough to cover demand.

I wish I'd gone for this deal now! It's on the front page of
almost every newspaper this morning -- the promotion has cost
Hoover 20 million. Three senior executives have been sacked.
