There is an excellent article in this weekends Daily Telegraph colour magazine about South Africa by Nicholas Shakespeare (yes he is a distant relation of our Will). Read and enjoy. One paragraph caught my eye in passing. I quote: "Soweto is to Johannesburg what South Africa is to the rest of the world - a sump in which to lock away our terror. What Soweto most emphatically is not is a shanty-town like the slums encroaching Lima and Rio. Superficially, it is more like Basingstoke." Makes me wonder if he sees far more or far less than most people. The mindless violence of Soweto; the mindless violence of Black Tuesday; ... Ho Hum
