Welcome to the Note you've all been waiting for!

For those of you who are unaware of what or who Basing Albion is/are,
we are a football team comprised of DEC staff in The Crescent (with the
odd rogue from DEC Park, Solent Business Park and one very odd rogue
from Viables who shall remain nameless for fear of reprisals!).

We are just embarking on our 1992 season and have a couple of games
arranged - one on April 10th (this Friday) against AA at Down Grange at
6pm, and one on 24th April against Microfocus at Down Grange at 7pm.

We ahave also booked a pitch for May 8th but as yet we have no
opponents, so if there is anyone out there who knows of Companies who
might want a game, please let me know. If it will help to win an order
so that we achieve the 207M revenue goal, we can always arrange to
    lose!

Match reports will be posted here as and when they occur.

If anyone is interested they are welcome to come along to watch, there
is a decent sized bar which also serves reasonable food.

If you can't make it, watch this space.

Well, the season got off to a reasonable start on Friday.

    Result: Basing Albion 0 : AA 0

Team: Paul (POTY of the Canals) Munson

Gerry (The Cat) Maguire Lawrence (Loz) Jolly

Dave (Bugger Me) Lund Yates Alan (Top Hand Baller) Lonie

Mark (Beech Bum) Palmer Martin (New Boy) Cooper John (Vague) Muir

John (Sniffer) Davenport Andy (Chairdripply) Mitchell Pete (PB) Brader

Subs: Dave (Abdul) Millar & John (Boy) Wood

We started with only ten men, no linesmen or referee!! Straight away,
we were under pressure from a team that plays every Friday evening and
knew how and where to pass the ball - unlike the Albion who struggled
for the first half hour to string two passes together (well it is seven
months since we played a game, what do you expect?!).

Paul Munson made some terrific saves as the defence wobbled
    considerably.

We eventually managed to get 11 players on the field and even had the
luxury of having two substitutes both of whom were used - John Wood
coming on for John Davenport, and Dave Millar deputising for the
    knackered-after-ten-minutes John Muir!

The closest the AA got to scoring was when they hit the woodwork twice,
one shot having been brilliantly turned on to the bar by Paul Munson.

The closest we got to scoring was when Dave Lund Yates burst through
their defence only to see his shot well saved by their keeper. The rest
of the time we had our backs to the walls for an hour.

It was a very clean game (which was just as well coz we still didn't
have a referee or linemen) with no free kicks conceded by either side.

We later retired to the local hostelry where we closely analysed the
game to see how the hell we were going to improve before the game
against Microfocus on 24th April. We came to the conclussion that there
wasn't much hope of improvement and that we would just turn up and see
    what happens on the day.

KIA (Keep It Albion - for those of you who didn't know)

    Re .-1

Andy Mitchell reminds me that he also came close to scoring when he
hammered a relatively easy chance into the side-netting.

Just to put the record straight.
