493.0. "Free Parking" by TASTY::NISBET (Open the pod bay doors, Hal.) Tue Oct 08 1991 15:37

I think I might go for a spladoosh in the pool first thing in the
morning. i.e. Basingstoke town centre sports centre.

Is there anywhere legal to park near to the Sport Centre before 9am?
How about down near the church - is that ok? How much does the
    BigCarPark cost?

There are a few free spaces down by the church but you'll have to
be lucky to grab these. I don't know about the multi-storey, but
the surface car park near to the New Market Square charges 25p
	per hour.

493.2How to save money when swimmingLARVAE::BARKERDo not fold, spindle or mutilateTue Oct 08 1991 18:3311
Dougie,
The multi-storey car park is free on Sunday & if you park in Car Park 2
(at least I think it's 2, above Woolworths anyway) you can walk the shortest
distance. I've been on a Sunday aFTernoon and it's pretty deserted.

Another money saver for cheapskates (who me?) is that the price for an
adult bather is 1.95 but before 17:30 weekdays & all day at weekends it's only
1.20 for an adult & child ticket. So if you can find a child to go swimming
with you it's a saving of 75p.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Basingstoke town centre has certainly gone all posh. When I used to
describe Basingstoke as a Toilet, I meant aromatically as well as
aesthetically. Happily it seems to be a lot better now. The staircase
down from the multi-story certainly impressed me. (I'm easily
    impressed).

What the blinking heck are NCP playing at? They have lots of signs
declaring that the prices go up on Saturday. So when you ask the
chappie at the booth what the prices will be going up to, does he
    know?

It looks like we have to wait. Anyone got NCP's number? I can feel a
    snotty day coming on.

    Of course he knows.

I went in there last week and on the way out asked and was told

hours 1-4 go up 10p each
hours 5-8 go up 20p each
over 8 hours go up 50p I think.

I think it all depends on what day and time you go in. You may have
been unlucky and got the part timer who doesn't even know what town hes
    in.

    Andy
Now of course he could of been fibbing but why should he.
