463.0. "New working practices at the Crescent" by TRUCKS::SMART (Taste and try before you buy) Wed Jul 24 1991 18:26

As I haven't seen it discussed in this conference or any other......

    <Climbs on soapbox>

As one of those ear marked to move to the Crescent when it re-opens in
the New Year, I listen to the news of 'new working practices' with some
    concern.

I hear that we will not have our own desk but will be assigned an area
in which to camp when we are in the office. Therefore we will not be
able to equip our desk with even the most basic of tools, such as a
calender let alone a workstation, that allow us to perform our jobs
    effectively.

No-one will ever know where anyone else sits as we will be nomadic and
therefore will have to hunt around the area to locate you. An what if
all of your group are in that day and you fill up your area? Do you go
and camp in someone else's? And what about staoring all the other
paraphernalia thatone has to do the job? How and where will this be
    stored?

What does the team think? Deos it care? Where you consulted?

    Discuss.

    Alan

Maybe you should ask your manager, from what I can remember reading,
some groups - those who are in the office most of the time, have
permanent places. Others that are out most of the time have flexible
areas, and these are designed with the managers of the groups, and there
are also spare areas, for visitors etc.

I also believe that they will be using CIT, so that when you log into
your account, the phone on the desk automatically becomes your
	extension number.

If you need a workstation to do your work, your manager should be
ensuring their are enough for your group.
