448.0. "First Time Visitor" by SSVAX::DALEY () Tue Jun 11 1991 21:12

    Hello,

I come from the Boston area and work in the Mill (for Storage Systems)
and will be making my first trip to your country.

I plan on visiting England this fall- September- and am wondering if
you can give me suggestions regarding some horse farms I can visit.
I was undecided if this note should go into the equitation notesfile
or this one - so I decided on this one because I know some of the
noters in the Equitation file are also in this file.

I have an Arabian (who is actually part of the family) and I am
interested in horses and farms. (Currently, while I don't live ON a farm,
I do reside BETWEEN two horse farms.) I thought that while I was in
England it would pleasant to visit some horse farms - but they don't
necessarily have to be an Arabian farm. I am not looking for a riding
stable but rather a breeding or a retirement farm. I understand that
there are some beautiful farms in England.

My mother visited the Horse Retirement Home on the Isle of Man a
couple years ago and was very impressed with the farm and the care
that its "residents" received. I am not travelling to the Isle,
however, are there similar farms near you which I can visit?

I would really appreciate ANY suggestions you might give to me.

      Thank you very much,

      Pat

P.S. I am most anxious to visit your country .

If you're looking for interest, then there are a number of Stud Farms
and Training establishments in the Lambourn area, just North of here
near Oxford. On the other hand you might prefer the National Stude
    which is at Newmarket.

Just for info.

Horse breeding establishments are called Studs in this country.

There aren't too many of these around, even fewer Arabian studs.

You could try contacting the British Horse Society, or the breed societies,
The Arabian Horse Society (based in Kent) for example.

There are many schools of Equitation in the South...2 of which I know
of are near to where I live..

There is the Wellington School of Equitation between Reading and
Basingstoke...also There is a school in Eversley of which the name
escapes me. I'll try and remember it and post it later.

Though I do not know whether these schools have retired horses, but ht
eone in Eversley is also used for training purposes...!

    hope this helps.
