| Carl,
I am very interested. I actually sent a note to the Social Club a
couple of weeks ago to see if Digital had any teams organised andif we
had a home ground.
I am playing at the moment in the Winter Comp in Div. 4 & 5 but need to
play higher I think. I don't have a team to play in for the Summer
Comp so would be keen to speak to you about it.

413.2 | | HAMPS::SKEEN_C | double minor for Slashing | Wed Apr 03 1991 20:13 | 20 |
| Hi Margaret,
I have a definate yes from another decie so things are looking
fairly promising at the moment. I don't really know what the standard
is like in the league but I would be interested in watching a match or
going to a practise if it can be arranged.
The only slight problem at the moment is that I can't always
guarantee that I can make all the matches due to working at customer
sights from time to time so it would be good if we could start with at
least five players, but if the worst came to the worst I would start
with the minimum and be prepared to loose games because of being short
handed.
Do you have any details of the club secretary or details on how to
get a new team in to the league ? I shall have a word with the Sports
and Social and see what we can turn up that way.
regards Carl

| HI CARL,
GOOD TO HEAR YOU HAVE ANOTHER WHO IS INTERESTED. GOOD LUCK WITH SPORTS
AND SOCIAL CLUB - THEY STILL HAVEN'T REPLIED TO MY MAIL OF TWO WEEKS
AGO.
AS FOR CLUB INFORMATION. I AM CURRENTLY PLAYING WITH A CLUB CALLED
COACHING AND OUR HOME GROUND IS RICHARD ALDWORTH SCHOOL. I WILL CALL
THE GUY WHO RUNS IT TO SEE IF WE CAN ENTER A TEAM UNDER THEIR CLUB NAME
- I DON'T THINK IT WILL BE A PROBLEM.
EVERY SATURDAY MORNING 10-12 THEY HAVE PRACTICE/COACHING SESSION AT
RICHARD ALDWORTH SCHOOL, SO IF YOU ARE INTERESTED WE CAN ALL GET
TOGETHER ONE SATURDAY AND HAVE A HIT TO GET AN IDEA OF WHERE WE MIGHT
FIT IN AND TERRY AT THE CLUB CAN ADVISE US OF WHAT GRADE WE SHOULD PLAY
IN.
A TEAM CONSISTS OF THREE PLAYERS, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA TO
HAVE A COUPLE EXTRA AND ROTATE PLAYERS EACH WEEK.
I'LL LET YOU KNOW WHAT I FIND OUT AFTER SPEAKING TO TERRY AT COACHING.
REGARDS
MARGARET

413.6 | MORE INFO ON PING PONG | ODDONE::TROUSDALE_M | | Mon Apr 08 1991 10:37 | 36 |
| Carl,
I have some further info on the table tennis summer league:
When - likely to start mid-late May. The Committee are meeting this
week to decide on a start date. I have put my address on their mailing
list so they will notify me in a few weeks of what is going to happen.
Where - as mentioned previously, we do need a home ground. The League
has a site in Essex Road which teams can hire out each week for about 3
pounds. We have to tell them which night we want our home game to be
on and if no other teams have booked it then its ours.
If Digital has a site then all the better. If they have a site and no
table, the club I am with can sell us one for 300 pounds. They are
secondhand tournament tables, so very good quality, and only used for
four tournaments.
Players - Each player has to be affiliated with the league as opposed
to the team affiliating. Its about 6 pounds a year and we can do this
when we send in our team entry. If a player has played in the winter
comp then they will already be affiliated.
Practice - I spoke to Terry at Coaching Club and he said it would be
okay for us to have a practice session one Saturday morning at Richard
Aldworth School to assess what Division we should paly in.
Divisions - Last summer league had two divisions, as yet they have made
no decision on how many for this year, as the summer comp has only been
running for a couple of years.
I think that's about it. If you need any more info please contact me.

| Hi,
The table has shrunk by at least six inches since I played in a local table
tennis league. However I am keen to start again - 10 years on.
Please keep me informed of developments and also whether anyone knows about
a DEC SSC table tennis club, both in Reading or Basingstoke.
I work in DECpark II in Reading, but live in Basingstoke.

| Hi,
It seems we have some good interest, at the moment the following
people have expressed a desire to play or at least practice.
Margaret Trousedale
Sennen Gomes
Dave Brett
Alex Groom
Amanda Westwood
Carl Skeen
We should be able to manage a team at least. The next Issue is more
difficult. Venue, entering the team in the league, home nights.
Obviously we need to consider what division we should be in and what
division we can get in, this means we will have to meet sometime before
hand else we will have no ideas regarding playing standard etc.
regards Carl
ps Any ideas are welcome.

| Hi again,
Please could people put a note in confirming whether or not they
wish to play in the Summer league. It is not a serious league so even
if you're not too sure just play for the hell of it, nobody will be
counting score.
Also since we need to meet one day to grade skill etc could you
mention which nights you would be able to play on so that we can all
meet some time.
regards Carl

| Hi,
From my side...
Play in the summer league Yes.
Home/practice nights (order of preference) Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
Start times 7.00pm (earliest).
Venue: When i last played in the league there were many company teams
that utilized their canteen. Is this a possibility with us? Not
sure who one needs to talk to first.

413.14 | DECpark canteen?? | FORTY2::GROOM | | Thu Apr 18 1991 10:20 | 17 |
| Hi,
Since I assume Sennen doesn't mean the DECpark canteen, and we both work in
Reading, here's my list of available evenings.
Not Friday, and after 7pm
Otherwise I'm fairly easy...
Alex.
As for a venue I'm sure local schools will hire out their sports equipment and
halls, but usually for a season or term rather than just a night.
I imagine the Basingstoke Lesiure Centre will have some TT stuff, probably for
about 3.00 an hour.
Clearly the best option would be a DEC site, if someone has some tables.
|
413.15 | not DECpark canteen | FORTY2::GOMES | Sennen Gomes | Thu Apr 18 1991 14:43 | 6 |
| Re .14
Alex's assumption is right. I was thinking of B'stoke sites only as i assume
the majority of us live near/in B'stoke.

At the moment as far as the summer league goes we will try and book one
day for the Essex road site which hires out for local teams, but
ultimately we will try and arrange for it to be played in one of the
Basingstoke Offices, Hampshire House or Viables seem to be the two most
dare I say it viable options at the moment. Some investigations will be
made into this. I know Highfield has a table and I've never seen it
used so I might ask about this as well.

413.17 | | HAMPS::SKEEN_C | real men use Vindicator Miniguns | Fri Apr 26 1991 18:02 | 28 |
| Hi,
I am about to send the team list off for the summer the summer
league. As time is short and the divisions are about to be decided, I
will arbitarily divide up the list into teams based on those who
haven't played recently and those who have.
ie TEAM A
Carl Skeen
Margaret Trousdale
Amanda Westwood
TEAM B
Dave Brett
Alex Groom
Sennen Gomes
Andy Whittacker
This way if the teams are in the same division you can swap players
as you wish apparently, if the teams are in different divisions you can
play up with no restrictions, but you can only play down a certain
amount of times. Also when we go in for the winter league we can adjust
the teams as neccessary.
If any one has any problems let me know.
regards Carl
