300.1 | Try Tylney Hall. | SHAPES::STREETR | Shoulders back, chest out, chins in! | Mon May 14 1990 10:57 | 10 |
| There are 2 Hiltons in Basingstoke, the one you saw at the
Aldermaston Road roundabout, and another near the Black Dam
roundabout. Both are typical "international" hotels. If you
liked the Swan House then why not stay there again.
There is another alternative, if you don't mind a drive into
Basingstoke.... this is Tylney Hall, near Rotherwick (East of
town off the A30.... it is well recommended by many of my visitors.

300.5 | one more vote for Tylney | TASTY::JEFFERY | Is "Bones" the real McCoy ?? | Mon May 14 1990 21:18 | 10 |
| Yeah,
I stayed two nights at Tylney when I was relocating.
It was cheaper than (then) Ladbroke Lodge (now Hilton), and by far the nicest
hotel I've stayed in.
Food was fantastic!

| A feature of Tylney is the size of room, and decor.....I am sure
that "you Americans" would just love the place..... even though it
_probably_ hasn't got air-conditioning.
And, yes, rooms have private facilities, TV, and there is a snooker
room, bar etc.....

Horses" pub....
Stupendous selection of *REAL* ales.... Something every American
should try....

| Phone: 0256-764881 (leave first 0 off if phoning from USA)
Directions: Exit Junction 5 from M3. If coming off from London
direction take 3rd exit from the roundabout. Possibly signed A30.
After 400 yards you will hit A30 at T junction. I think the
road for Rotherwick is signed from here. Anyway its 2 miles or so
North of here via Newnham. Someone may like to give clearer directions.
Shopping: No local shops..... Main stores in Basingstoke which is
between 8-10 minutes drive depending on time of day.
