293.0. "Hiring Rubbish Skips" by LARVAE::MOORE_A (Dont Worry- Its only 1's and 0's) Mon Apr 30 1990 11:47

    Does anybody know of:

    	a) The best place to hire a rubbish skip in Basingstoke

    	b) Somewhere reasonably priced for sand and gravel - I have been
quoted #25.00 a ton here (in Preston, Lancs the going rate
is #9.00 a ton - is the North/South divide that deep?)

    Regards

    Cheers

If the 'let your fingers do the walking' message was enough to
guarantee satisfaction the this conference would be half the size.
The whole point of asking for something like this is to get someone's
personal experience of a firm -

    	Did they deliver on time?
    	Flexible and Friendly
    	Did they **collect** when agreed

I have seen skips dumped halfway into the road, on people's lawns etc
etc and was hoping to avoid it by going somewhere with a good
    reputation.

Yellow Pages won't give you that

......But I know a man who does.!

I have a friend who uses skip's regularly for his Landscape
    Gardening Buisness.

I had one through him for around 10 Pounds, but he may get
    discount.

His number is 0256-880023, County Patios, and ask for Steve Gooch.

Its a bit far out from Basingstoke, but Collards in Farnborough quoted
me 35 pounds for a 2yd skip. This was the cheapest that I could obtain
    in that area.

You could try Stanleys or Brants out Tadley way, they are quite large
companies so they should be competitive.

For aggregates, try Steetley Construction Materials in Aldermaston they
have branches throughout the country. They are definitely cheaper than
the prices you quoted, I used to work there so I have some idea of
    price ranges.

I hope these are of help.

Try Basingstoke Building Material Co, Roentgen Road, Daneshill
trading estate for your sand/gravel. tel no 22355 or 841551.

I used them last year and was impressed. They were the cheapest
I found and were efficient and helpful.
