288.0. "Ready or not, here I come" by SAHQ::LUBER (This space available for rent) Thu Apr 12 1990 16:24

    I just found out about this conference. Someone in the London notes
    file made me aware of it. I am from the US in Atlanta. I will be
    working in Basingstoke (not the Digital office) next Tuesday and
    Wednesday. I will be staying at the Swan House in Kingsclere on Mon,
    Tue, and Wed nights.

    Any suggestions on what to do? where to eat? etc. at night?

    myself.
288.3Loads to do....LARVAE::WATSON_Cblooming... marvellous!Thu Apr 12 1990 17:0733

    Hi!  A couple of ideas:

    There's the new bowling alley to try, although as it's just opened
    booking may be a little difficult. To eat there's a great Beefeater
    just opposite the above called the Spruce Goose (!), which I tried the
    other day, and would recommend.

    If you'd prefer to stay in the town centre try Corks, excellent
    traditional English food, in friendly surroundings, not badly priced
    either.

    Or the Hee's chinese - a little bit pricey though.

    The sports centre is right in the town centre - swimming pool, squash,
    badminton sauna & jacuzzi etc, etc. Not too badly priced either. If
    you like sports that is!! You can also try the skating rink, which
    does different things each night, but I'm not sure what. (Helpful huh?)

    I don't know about Kingsclere though, maybe someone else can let you
    know if anything is happening there.

    Above all - have a great stay!!

    Chris  :-)

    PS: Don't believe all they say in London about Basingstoke - it's not
    ALL true!!

288.4Recommend Plumes.TASTY::JEFFERYIs "Bones" the real McCoy ??Fri Apr 13 1990 15:108
I couldn't possibly recommend Corks (although when I ate there, it was nice).

I recommend Plumes, it's off the beaten track, and the service is really good,
mainly because I work there!.

If you go there Wed or Thursday night, I might even pour soup on your shirt!

Since when has Hee's been expensive? Did they put the prices up?

    Re: .5

    Expense is relative.

    Hee's is more expensive than some, but the food is worth it :-)
