201.0. "Steel weight shoe wanted" by CRATE::CLIFFE (A Haggistarian) Wed Aug 16 1989 10:09

I'm looking for a steel 'fitness' shoe (don't know real name for
them) that straps onto your foot and has holes that can take
	 a dumbell with weights.

I want to build up my knee and leg muscles as I'm getting
fed up with my knee giving way (due to knackering ligaments,
cartilidge etc. playing rugby). And no, I can't cycle
50 miles to work and back every day.

Can contact me on mail	SHAPES::CLIFFET	or
			phone	7781 4352	or
			in the	Crescent A block,
top floor, facing the (sigh) pub.

201.1Worth a try....LASHAM::NICHOLLSMad Dog 20-20Wed Aug 16 1989 11:3812
I don't suppose this will be much help, but my husband is having
to do the same due to a ruptured knee ligament.

He has been using a pair of oven gloves with two large tins in each
pocket and lifting his (straight) leg up and down for exercise while
    watching tv!

   Helpfully yours

I'd be very, very interested in how you get on. i.e. If
doing these exercises solves your problems.

I have knee troubles which I attribute to doing overly
intensive weight traingin workouts a few years ago, and have
difficulty with things like leg curls. Current thinking
seems to be that building up the supporting minor muscles
around the knee is a good way of strengthening the knee
generally and getting rid of the various clunks & clicks you
get every trip.

I've bought a couple of 'bracelets' from Argos quite
cheaply. Around five pound for 2 2kg bracelets. They have
velcro straps which you use to attach to your wrists or
ankles, and can be used to lend extra load to the exercise.

Check out the BICYCLES Notesfile - there tends to be quite a
lot of ailments related stuff on that. good luck

That's what I was told when I done my knee in.

A bit light for what I'm wanting to do !
I borrowed a 'shoe' from a friend and I was using the weights I've
got - around 20kg. I have found that the 'shoe' is the best to use
for weight adjusting and there is no balancing act (see next).

Another method is to use an old trouser leg (or similar) and
fill with sand, but 20kg+ of sand can get messy !

WHAT !!! - what do you eat on Burns's night ??
