I'm in the same boat as you.
New Amiga and no one else to 'talk' to about it.
I've also been thinking of getting a modem to play POPULOUS etc
and joining Micronet - or whatever the hell it's called.

    Amy Owners - wherethehellareyou?
With such a great little machine on offer surely there is more than
    2 owners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way I have an unexpanded A500 with no extra nothing - yet.
    To coin a vomit-inducing phrase - a vanilla machine , and I thought
    it was called an AMIGA.

    Regards.

Another Amiga owner sticks his head up.

If you want to compare s/w lists, then give me a shout.

I've heard of an ETHERNET card being available in the states, but thought
this was for the A/B 2000 series only. And at what price.

I have considered a B2000 but the Bank Manager seemed to laugh too
much for it to be viable.

Being a self-admitted philistine I do enjoy (on the rare occasions
I can actually sit down and make time for it) playing the odd game.
I've obtained through my initial starter-pack and oodles of hard
earned cash the following games :

POPULOUS -	No Amiga owner should be without one
PALADIN -	Once you get used to the instructions it's
   				great.
STRIKE FORCE HARRIER-	How are you supposed to land?? Flight
    				Simulator.
HELLBENT -	Shoot'em up over scrolling landscapes.
    GOLDRUNNER -	"	"	"	"	"
    BACKLASH -	Exhilarating,heart pounding shoot'em
    				up.
WINTER OLYMPICS	-	All that snow stuff etc.
KARATE KID II	-	Kick-hell-out-of-eachother game.
    INTERNATIONAL SOCCER-	Footie
    STARGOOSE -	Shoot'em up on 3d landscape
    I,LUDICRUS - Complete Garbage

I would be more than willing to temporarily exchange any (bar POPULOUS,
until I,ve taken a copy) for something else I,ve not seen.

I would like to try XENON II - a-crazy-apeshit-shoot'em-up-blast-
    everything-to-bits game so I'm informed.

I've also collected a few useful PD games'n'bits'n'pieces etc

If you two guys would like to swap for a short while let me know.

    Regards

Of course when you copy the software you will have permission from the
copyright owners?

My, my what a suspicious mind you have. I think that if you re-read 167.4 that
you will find that Jon is offering to lend or swap software for a short period
of time. The only reference to copying is of software he already owns for
himself, this is presumably for backup purposes and does not require permission
of the copyright holders.

Did I say copy - it was a typo - I meant backup - which surely is
    the same.

If the original game and (as some games-designers ensure)
documentation is necessary - am I breaking copyright if I copy the
disk for my own purposes and do not lend the copy out ?
The point of the copy is in the event of a disk failure etc.

I am not suggesting anyone breaks copyright.

If I swap a complete original game and its documentation with another
person for a different original game and its documentation - no
money etc passes hands - does this violate copyright?
Once they are returned to their rightful owners and I liked the
game I've now witnessed I would go out and buy it.

I do not wish to become bogged down with the morals of the issue.

I retract my open invitation (which I agree implied a certain lack
of thought to the copyrighting issue), but a non-copyright-breaking
    offer still stands.

Thank you for drawing my attention to it.

      It depends what you bought.

	an example:

	A company buys the software.
They buy the right to run that on x machines.
They MAY also buy the right-to-copy, this includes the software and
	documentation.

You probabaly have the right to run, not to sell, loan or copy.

Imagine a small company buying VMS, and "swapping" it with another
	for MS/DOS.................

> I do not wish to become bogged down with the morals of the issue.

	It's not morals, it's law.

re .11

I think that there may be a confusion here over what has been bought.
Digital for example does not sell software, we sell a license to use and copy
within certain restrictions. This is one reason why we sell the media &
documentation separately from the license to run.

Most home computer software is bought outright, there is no question of
having a license to use it in some restrictive way. You are in exactly the same
position as if you had bought a record or book. If you want to lend it you may,
if you want to give it away you may, if you want to sell it you may. You may
not however without infringing copyright make a copy of it and then lend, sell
or give away that copy.

I think that

"To boldy go"

is a split infinitive,

So I presume that "To go" is an infinitive, and that "boldly" split it.
