Absolute Sound and Video in Feathers Lane are also pretty good.
They have been happy to send my Sony Walkman to repair twice, even
though I didn't buy it from them!

| just a slight tangent, but does anybody have the address for where
I can send my Fisher Hi-Fi for repair? I've lost the guarantee card
with the address on, the local shops seem a bit lost and since the
gear was bought in the States I'd rather send it to fisher themselves
for repair.
So, can some kind soul with some Fisher audio equipment look the
address up for me, pretty please?

local one you may get a worthwhile response by putting it in
the Audio conference (DRILL::UK_AUDIO).

| Not quite sure what you mean by "High End"
However, the starting places must be:
Audio T, Feathers Lane, Basinsgtoke
Reading High Fi, - back of Ramada/Butts Centre Reading
Newbury Hi Fi, Newbury somewhere!
Audio T will sell you Linn, Arcam, Marantz and Naim stuff.
Reading Hi hi will sell of the above apart from Linn and Marantz, and me
thinks are probably slighly "higher" and certainly bigger than Audio T.
Newbury on the other hand I have never used.
I have spent good money at both Reading and Basingstoke so I guess they are
recommended for what I wanted ;-)

| Audio T is pretty good. Simon (the manager) is not afraid to speak his
mind about his opinions and is genuinely keen on music, with hi-fi
being a way to play said music. The after sales service is (and always
has been) excellent.
Dave - whose Linn Karik is in for repairs there :-(

| If you are thinking of buying a piece of expensive kit, it is worth
checking out these places to decide what you want, then ringing round
some of the shops that advertise in What HIFI. I managed to save
nearly 100 on a cd player by getting it from a store in Aldershot.

It's all well and good doing what you suggest, but by going to a
box-shifter you do miss out on after-sales care and its asscoiated
business to say nothing about it being rather rude. (I wonder if this
is why Digital's business dropped and many of our workmates were
right-sized as a result?).

I have to confess, I didnt suffer this problem. The shop I got it from
in Aldershot was another HIFI dealer, not a 'box shifter'. They were a
nice bunch of people, and serviced my player free of charge. Sorry.
I've never been to any of the large stores that you see advertised, so
I can't comment on their after sales care.

160.16 | I'll pass on Audio T in Basingstoke | VESDAT::JKAXP1::Kennedy | Dr Chandra...will I dream? | Fri May 19 1995 10:53 | 15 |
| Re a few back concerning Audio T in Basingstoke:
If you manage to figure out their bizzarre opening hours (I think
they decide to have a ly-in some days), and when you eventually get
one of the staff to actually talk to you (talking to other members of
staff/mates/friends, or checking inventory lists, appears much more
important to them) - don't expect an intelligent conversation if you
just happen to have some opinions that don't exactly align with the
stuck-up pea-brain that is supposed to be trying help you decide what
to buy! I tried them twice and gave in.
You've probably gathered what I think of them :-)

Funny thats exactly what happened to me yesterday. I'm afraid I was not
at all impressed poor range, and the usual Linn/Naim dealer attitude
that all their stuff is perfect and everthing else is just crap.
I think I,ll stick to my usual dealers Acoutic Arts in Watford even if
it is a bit of a drive now adays.
