70.1 | wonder if it'll get cheaper... | 45830::KCAMPBELL | k a r e n | Wed Dec 07 1988 12:19 | 5 |
| I heard that whatever price one offers the other will beat!
But how long can it last??

70.2 | but I drive a diesel | KERNEL::PETTET | Norm Pettet CSC Basingstoke | Wed Dec 07 1988 13:04 | 5 |
| I live just outside Petersfield and drive a diesel. At the moment
I pay 1.5 pounds for a gallon, how does this compare to either Tesco
or Sainsbury's price?
Just curious..Norm

They have been having the same 'war' in Swindon for months
now with Gateway. Only problem is the promotions are for
petrol only, so us deisel drivers don't gain.

70.4 | 2*, unleaded but no diesel | LARVAE::BARKER | Do not fold, spindle or mutilate | Wed Dec 07 1988 13:51 | 10 |
| I don't think there are any diesel pumps on the forecourt. The price I
quoted in the base note was for 4*. There are both 2* and unleaded pumps &
presumably these are even cheaper then the 4*.
Before anyone asks. Yes I would like to use unleaded in my Volvo. The
garage tell me that I need a new head gasket. They will fit this for the
bargain price of 140+VAT. I guess I will just have to live with my guilt at
destroying childrens brains with my exhaust.

always give them a bell.

Wow! It seems like nearly two years away from home are starting
to show.
The gallons are slightly smaller here, but you can still get super
unleaded for less than a dollar a gallon (only just - $0.99c)

70.7 | Diesel is available at Sainsburys | LARVAE::BARKER | Do not fold, spindle or mutilate | Fri Dec 16 1988 10:06 | 10 |
| A quick update as I filled up at Sainsbury's yesterday.
4* is still 34.1p/l (1.51745/gallon).
Unleaded is 33p/l (1.4685/gallon)
Diesel is 32.9p/l (1.46405/gallon)

70.8 | Petrol prices - An apology | LARVAE::BARKER | Do not fold, spindle or mutilate | Tue Jan 03 1989 14:14 | 19 |
| It has been kindly pointed out to me that I used the wrong calculation
for litres to gallons (I used 4.45 instead of 4.545). I have amended the prices
and rounded to the nearest pence.
4* is still 34.1p/l (1.55/gallon).
Unleaded is 33p/l (1.50/gallon)
Diesel is 32.9p/l (1.49/gallon)
I gather from reading the 'Basingstoke Gazette' that this is the cheapest
petrol in the country & all the other garages in the area are bleating that
they are going broke as all their custom is being taken away.
Nigel
PS I don't know how many people read this notes file or how many of those are
mathemeticians but only one of you spotted my deliberate mistake re
litres->gallons.

Thanks, I'm really grateful, I won't bother to highlight your spelling
mistakes in that case :-).
