32.0. "Anyone for a pint" by HEAD::WILLIAMS () Thu Sep 22 1988 13:33

    You may all like to know that I have contacted facilities, to
    see if its possible for DEC to host a Blood transfusion session
    at one of the Basingstoke offices.

    re .0......have you just received the normal "come and give a pinta"
    card, to attend at DECPark?

    Last time I gave blood I asked what would be the best thing to do
    about arranging a Basingstoke session...they said contact the Hampshire
    Area Health Authority, or just go along and give blood at the hospital.
    (I for one, would prefer them to come to us...)

32.2Thought about going to Dec Park..SHAPES::STREETRuncontaminated by cheeseThu Sep 22 1988 15:086
     Yes, I would give.... but its much easier if they come
    here!

     I must have plenty, I haven't given for _ages_ ;-)

    Ray.

	I'll give one (less then 1 pint in fact, isn't it?)
	I would also prefer the BTS (Blood Transfusion Service) to come here

32.4Hancock, where are you in our hour of need?FOOT::RUSSELLLife is short, then you die. (W. Allen)Thu Sep 22 1988 18:179
    That's a good idea - I'll give an armful.

    I would prefer they came here, if only to save time.

    (In a previous job, BTS used to lay on a mini-bus to shuttle people
    from offices to the transfusion centre - would they do this?)

    Peter.

32.5BTS AT THE AAODIHAM::NICHOLLSI'd rather be eatingThu Sep 22 1988 19:0111
    In days gone by, the BTS would visit the AA, Fanum House.

    The AA would then contact Wimgrove House and a First Aider
    would contact everyone in the building and coordinate times etc.
    The BTS set up a big bus/caravan affair, with beds and tea and
    coffee making facilities and we would all pile in six or so at a time.

    I'd be willing to go again although I hate doing it.

    Regards Alex
32.6Mine's a pintKERNEL::ADAMSVenus on Remote ControlFri Sep 23 1988 02:1515

    I believe that the BTS (from Southampton Regional Centre), still
    visit the ITT buildingin Jays Close, twice a year.

    Phil Coventry & Sylvia Caton used to co-ordinate things for
    Digital staff to attend. There was a mini-bus available,but
    most of us healthy CSC people used to walk over (and crawl back).

    Over the last year or so, with staff changes at Viables,the BTS
    has been forgotten,but I'm sure interest would revive,given
    the right impetus.

    I'll get our H&S rep to raise the issue of BTS at their next
    meeting.

32.7Don't delay donate todayHEAD::WILLIAMSFri Sep 23 1988 12:146
    The BTS are keen for DEC to host a session as the current sessions
    are very busy. I have been asked to build a proposal to put forward
    to the Site committee here at the Crescent. If it is passed by the
    committee, we will need 10% of the DEC workforce to donate a pint.

    margaret.

> ... we will need 10% of the DEC workforce to donate a pint.

    In that case, don't forget to let us know over at Viables - I know
    of a few people who are interested but [like me] never quite make
    it into the town centre when BTS are there. (My wife went to the
    session last month and apparently the turn-out was so poor that
    they were in the smaller of the two halls whereas they used to be
    able to fill the large hall so it's not surprising that BTS are
    keen to get on-site).

    Let us know here at Snamprogetti House too, I am a donor but I
    usually go to the Carnival Hall at lunchtimes to give my pint.

    Due to give my 5th pint next month! I am sure that alot more
    DECies would give if it was set-up for them!

    Could I have a volunteer at Viables,Hampshire House,Snamprogetti
    and Wimgrove house to find out what % of staff would participate
    if we arranged a session here at The Crescent.

    to attend sessions in the ITT Social Club (Between CSC & The Crescent).

    Not sure who is organising the Digital appointments,probably

    Does no one at Wimgrove read this conference/note?????.
32.16IMNAUT::HIRDNoone expects the spanish inquisitionWed Oct 12 1988 19:2911
    Yeah, go to it B'Stoke peoples !

    I have given 2 pints over here to the American Red Cross, and they
    ignore you while you are on the table, and treat you like they are
    doing you a favour taking your blood. A far cry from the friendly
    BTS people, and at least they numb the skin on your arm too! Of
    11 pints donated in the UK (either at carnival hall or at cannons)
    the worst experience was getting some blood on my shirt !

    Peter,
    	If you were with this note from the beginning then you would
    have not failed to realise that the all important ITT 'blood-letting'
    took place yesterday.And believe it or believe it not, you have
    to have an appointed time for this ceremony....and I didn't..
32.21FOOT::RUSSELLWhy, oh, why, oh.... spells YOYO.Tue Nov 29 1988 11:2810
    Ahhh, now I understand..

    I re-read all the replies, and realise that I forgot .12 (posted in
    early October!!) - there have been no reminders or posters here
    at the Crescent!!

    Oh well, there goes another good intention...

    Peter.

32.22BTS in Brasingsteak .?..PUGH::JANEWhere Beagles Dare ...Wed Dec 14 1988 16:1513
	Well did anything happen about the blood doning sessions ?
	Are BTS going to do a session at the Crescent ?
	How often do they go to ITT ?
	Will anyone want mine????

	Seriously, I usually give blood here at Dork Park and wouldn't
	want to miss out on the fun of having it spilt all over the floor
	just cos I'm working in Brasingsteak.

	What happened ?!?!?!!?

32.23remember the 27th aprilHEAD::WILLIAMSThu Dec 15 1988 09:385
The first donor session will be held at The Crescent on the 27th April 1989.
The NBTS will be contacting me early in the new year to advise me and the
'volunteers' from the other Basingstoke offices on co-ordinating the session.

Margaret
32.24A suggestion.SHAPES::STREETRBeer today, gone tomorrowThu Dec 15 1988 11:176
     Can some form of 'appointment' system be developed? It might
    make people feel they have 'committed' rather than just say
    'come along on the 27th'. It may take a bit of effort but may
    generate more 'pints'.

    Ray.
32.25HEAD::WILLIAMSThu Dec 15 1988 11:504
That is what the meeting with NBTS and the other organisers will be about.
