31.0. "Moving House Questions" by IPG::KCAMPBELL (Karen) Fri Sep 16 1988 11:29

Can anyone recommend any decent furniture removal companies in
Basingstoke? Or warn me off the bad ones?

And what about self drive etc...has anyone any experience of this?

Any information would be gratefully received as we're really in the
dark this subject!

Thanks a lot!

I would steer well clear of DIY removals,if you have any amount
of furniture.I did just that on my last move;I ended up spending
out only 40.00 pounds less than the removal company,& I was
thouroughly exhausted by the end of the day, which lasted 13 hours.

    PS:leave it to the experts

If you are planning to DIY, plan to have a few "men" (this isn't
supposed to be sexist, I really mean men) to help out. I did it
once with three friends and we were all kn***ed at the end of the
    day.

Last time I moved, I used CANTAY (I believe DEC use them too sometimes)
    and they were very good.

If you DIY , bare in mind that your property is not insured while
you move , so if you drop the telly or the bone china dinner service
    then tough titty .

I have just moved house and I used ECONOMOVE, they are based in
Basingstoke and are a family buisness. They were very good and cheap.

Cant remember their number, bit I got it from the yellow pages.

I moved down here March '87 and found Pickfords were excellent. They
were one of the dearer firms (not to me, I was relocating :-) but
the quality of service was excellent. Worth a phone call at least.

I agree with -1. about Pickfords. Expensive but V. Good and they
were able to do it when other smaller companies were booked up.
