For the past two and a half years, I have been having my hair
cut/permed/highlighted etc by a great hairdresser called Pete on
Basingstoke 27504. He lives in South Ham, working from home.
He used to work in Renaissance which is at the top of town next
to BSM Driving School. My mum and brother also use him and we have
    never been disappointed.

22.2COMMAND PERFORMANCEHAMPS::NICHOLLSTue Aug 30 1988 17:3019
I have recently started to go to a hairdresser in the town centre
called Command Performance. I have found them excellent on each
visit (as it is unisex, my husband has even started to go there
too - so it must be good!).

Anyway, I have had a perm and general trims - all of a very high
standard. For a change, the hairdressers really seem to know what
they are talking about. They study your hair type and take time
and effort in what they do.

They aren't the cheapest, my perm/cut cost 28 pounds - but a trim
    only cost me 2 pounds!

They are quite popular, so you can't just walk in!

    Hope this helps.

Hurrah for Peter Peter the Pumpkin Eater. Yep Peter Sullivan
has been doing my hair for a couple of years too. From when
he was at Bona Riah and Renaissance(sp?).

Can also highly recommend Mark Patton of Julie Crew at Chineham,
who is one of the best cutters in town - not the guy for your
perms and highlights but certainly for cuts!

22.8Good hairdressersCURRNT::HAWKEMon Jul 24 1989 14:075
There is a hair dresser at CatsWhiskers Brighton Hill 50516 who
is very good. She is Australian, has been working for 12 years and
always ends up in charge of staff training and teaching. If all
her friends will gladly queue up (& pay) to get their hair cut,
she must be good! Name is Mary Hawke and say Andrew recommended you.
22.9The BOX is open!LARVAE::LUCIEMake mine a Pint of ESB!Thu Jul 27 1989 14:5314

Yet another update on Mark Patton and Peter Sullivan - they have
now opened their new salon which is BOX, Lower Church Street, which
    is near St Michaels Church.

    Tel: 52280

Nice to see two local boys get their act together in this town and
open their own place. (I was at the opening swilling champagne
    so I s'pose I am slightly biased!).

    Go and check it out!

Any hairdressing updates? The general vote seems to be for Command
performance. I went there once and wasn't overly impressed. I
suppose it depends as much as who you get as where you go.

Hi,

The notes in here appear to have been entered sometime ago. I am looking
for a hairdresser that can cut well. I seem to find one I like just get my
hair how I want it and they leave!

I would appreciate some recommentations.

Cheers,
Karen

Sharon at Julie Crew Chineham is excellent at cutting, don't know about
her other talents though, and I don't think they are cheap, about 17.50
if you want her to cut and blow dry.
22.14KERNEL::GRAYJIn need of a lodger....Mon Jun 08 1992 09:5442
Not that I would want to criticise a hairdressers, I'm sure they're quite fair
most of the time... I'd relate an experience that made me feel they were a little
unprofessional....

I had my hair cut there, it was ok.

I then booked in for low lights.

I turned up to have two young girls one of whom appeared to be a trainee
hum and ha over whether or not they could do the lowlights (my hair is
lightened anyway thus it takes longer - I'd mentioned this but the slot I'd
been booked wasn't long enough for them to do it in apparently).

When I pointed out that this was down to who-ever had taken the booking for
the appointment as I had clearly mentioned the fact that it was already lightened
they proceeded to come with other reasons why they couldn't do the job...

This consisted of in the reception area, in front of another customer waiting
for a trim, holding my hair up and saying what a state is was how it was in
very poor condition and would probably not stand up to being treated, and
how it obviously hadn't been looked after or cut for ages..!!!

At this point I pointed out the that firstly it was their saloon who cut my hair
only a week before and that their saloons recommendations were rather
inconsistant as it was one of their stylists who had suggested I book in for the
lowlights and how it would be fine to do it on my hair as it was in pretty
good condition.

Inconsistancys and a complete lack of consideration for their customer, producing
a complete lack of trust in me has detered me from returning.

MODS: I've tried to keep this pure facts, if you'd rather I re-wrote it I will,
if you'd rather I just put in *not* *recommended* okey doke... however these
are actually facts that happened and not opinions.

Jo,

(who finds that Hooked on Hair in Hook might be a bit further to travel but are
nice to you, cut and lighten well and take notice of what you want them to do
and above all don't go out of their way to be superior and humiliating in front
of other staff and customer, and make nice coffee :-)

22.18Solo (not far from CSC)LARVAE::HAWKINS_BSecretaries do it in MinutesThu Sep 02 1993 10:1127
    Jo,

Have you ever tried Solo - it's a tiny little place next to the Bay
Tree Florist (or near it anyway) opposit The Lamb pub, not too far
    fromt he CSC.

They have a guy there called Gerri - he used to manage the Wella
Technical salon and he did highlights on my hair there - he's good.
He's also good a cutting, but I can't comment on the long hair bit!

He's also worked on Cruise Ships and I think he's really good - don't
know why he's at this place tho' - could be he owns it, but I'm not
    sure.

The salon is NOT up market, I've been there twice, for convenience
firstly because I'm at UCG. I had a perm there and it cost 30.00 and
it was really good and has lasted, and I went back a few weeks ago for
a trim up and it's good - cost 11.75, which I think is quite cheap
    these days.

I'd certainly think Gerri is worth a try - let me know if you go there
    and what you think.

I stopped going to see Raye because it used to take so Lonnnnnnnng to
get a hair cut you almost needed it done again before you left!

He's one of these people who goes off and makes a phone call mid way
through your cut or goes to finish off someone else then comes back to
    you.

A very nice guy, average hairdresser but bl*^%y frustrating.

   Hair Razors, Cliddesden.

The "cutter" is Dawn Mansbridge. Her Salon is at the Garage in Cliddesden
   (T.W.Mansbridge - her dad).

Its walkable from Viables, being a fraction closer than the Jolly Farmer.

If you go, say I sent you - I might get a free cut ;-)

working (I think) with Blades (I think they are a different name).

Anyway, Leigh was good (as far as I know!)

Well, since Box managed to fit me in for a Saturday morning appointment
when I rang on the Friday afternoon I was a little wary (good places are
popular aren't they?) but for no reason.

I had Pauline who's just joined them from Farnham, she did a fairly time
economical and comfortable set of re-highlights with the foil which is
even more comfortable than easy-mesh !

Friendly, relaxed, endless flow of coffee and up to date mags -
I'll just have to get my hair cut there too sometime in the future.

Exactly a year to the day since the last reply but...

Can anyone recommend any good mobile hairdressers in the Basingstoke

Also, what sort of prices do BOX charge for say, wash/cut/blowdries and
highlights these days (if they are still open).

Sharon,

You get what you pay for! And if you were to go round the various 'good'
salons in Basingstoke etc. you'll find its the going rate.

I'd suggest you look in the local paper for a mobile hairdresser - they
advertise there every week.

Cheers
