9.0. "ANYONE FOR P*O*E*T*S?" by UBOHUB::DAVIES_A (Abby National) Tue Aug 02 1988 13:02

Having watched from afar the P*O*E*T*S arrangements on the other
    Notes files.........

.......does anyone feel inspired to get together for Blazingsmoke
    P*O*E*T*S?

I've never been to one of these notorious meetings, but as we're
a "start-up" conference at the moment it could be possible to meet
    *everyone* which would be great....

Just don't suggest The Castle pub.......(reasons available on request!)

Being fairly new to DEC i am not quite sure what a P*O*E*T*S
meeting is ?? but it sounds good .

Also i agree , the Castle would not be a good suggestion .

I'm sure that some of us in the newly opened "Crescent" would probably
be interested in P*O*E*T*S - we're all game for a laugh!

Well, we seem to have some interest here.....

    SO....

I propose the first P*O*E*T*S on Friday, August 12th at the Millstone.

Question: how do we all recognise each other? I've always wondered
how you get round this one - I mean, who wants to display their
badge prominently out of working hours...

    Any ideas?

Of course *** stands for 'ush', what did you think I mean't? I'm

Also, I wanna know where this pub is as well, then I can decide
whether to go or not (if you are going Bryan, I'm not going anyway!)

The Millstone is under debate in the Pubs note at the moment....

    To get there:
    - Go round the back of Snam to the magic roundabout.
    - Turn left over the bridge and follow the road round to right.
    - At next roundabout take 3rd exit.
    - At next roundabout turn right
    - You'll quickly come upon a sign to "Ruins of Basing House"- follow
      it and turn left
    - Follow road round and you'll end up in the Millstone car park.

Hope this is clear - any modifications to these directions welcome.

Ummm, where is Snam? I know it's "somewhere in the middle", but
that's the limit of my knowledge - and what magic roundabout?

Is it on the ring road?

If I can find it, I'll try to make the 12th, except now I've
said that no-one else from the Crescent will come.....

Peter.	(who doesn' know much either...)

	At roundabout take third exit
At next roundabout take first exit.
At next roundabout take third exit joining the ring road.
At next roundabout take first exit.
Pass slip road for the town centre and take next slip road, sign
	posted 'Old Basing'.
(Start following signs to the 'Ruins of Basing House')
	At 'T' junction turn right.
	At roundabout take third exit.
	At mini-roundabout turn right.
Turn left into Barton's Lane (if you go under the railway bridge
	you've missed it!)
Turn right into Millstone after a short distance (it's a
sign-posted track, the pub can not be seen from the road).

So....how many people are actually going to turn up at P*O*E*T*S
on Friday at the Millstone then?

There will be a few from The Crescent (so, anyone not from there
should just look for the alcoholics making fools of themselves
    in some corner!)

If the Golden lion is on this evening can you look out for a short
guy , wearing grey trousers with a grey shirt with pinkish
and purple checks ( i know the shirt sounds disgusting ) , whom
might miss the first 10 mins due to travelling from DEC PARK .

P.S. if the shortish guy ( 5' 5") with the pinkish and purple check
shirt answers to the name of Phil you will have found me .
