| We've had similar problems:
Day 1 (of the takover):
The milk did not arrive before we left for work and so stood out
on the doorstep all day. That evening when the bottle was opened
it was sour.
Day 2:
No milk delevered.
Day 3:
No milk delivered.
Day 4:
Wrong type of milk delivered.
Day 5:
Wrong type of milk delivered.
Day 6:
EURIKA!!! They got it right!

Well I live off the Worting Road and we have a local dairy round
the corner in Queens Road - no probs in 18 months - bar the fact
that I get 'hate-mail' from Milko cos I never remember to pay
him!
The name of the dairy is Queens Road Dairy, Tel: 21809 - not
sure if they deliver to Chineham but you could ask!

Yup.......we've had the same problems.
Unigate has also taken over the deliveries etc. in Reading.
I used to get double cream from them, but after two weeks of off
cream I cancelled the order and went to the local supermarket.
Trouble is, the same people deliver there. Result? Cream's still
off. The guy who runs the market has had so many complaints that
he's getting a file together on it - I wrote him a letter on the
spot so he could push back on Unigate.
How about if we all put it in writing?
Also, same problems with non-delivery, wrong milk etc.

| I live in Axford (7/8 miles from B/stoke) and our milk is delivered by
Job's dairy as was. This was taken over by Unigate some months ago but I
haven't noticed any deterioration in service.
The best thing about our milkman is that he delivers the newspapers as
well as his dairy stuff at about 07:00.
This is great as I can't really face the day without perusing 'The
Guardian' while eating my bowl of muesli. Aaarggh!...I've got a beard too... I
think I've just turned into a stereotype.
BTW It's even worse as we only have the newspaper delivered by the milkman. We
don't need his milk as we keep goats (13 last time I counted).

Well I live in the part of Chineham near the millstone, and we just
gone through the takeover. However we have had no problems whatsoever
with our milkman.
Delivers earlier than the last one and is also more polite.

Last Saturday morning I was leaving my house when the milkman came
charging towards me demanding 5.40. I refused to pay, I haven't
had any milk I said. Oh yes you have, he insisted, I delivered it
myself. Well I am not paying you said I. He starts to get rather
pink round the edges and his already...unpleasant... manner worsened.
**I delivered your bloody milk and I want my money!! **
I could not keep it up any longer, I had to tell him he had the
wrong house!
(I buy my milk from Sainsbury's and have done for ages.
Mainly because the milkman came at 9:00 and left my milk to curdle
in the sun all day.)

How can you blame the milkman for the milk being left in the sun all day?
You knew he would deliver while you were at work so why didn't you do
something about it, like buy a milk minder.

^^^^^^^^^^^
... as in "You toucha the milk, I toucha the trigger !" ? or is
it more of "No, no, no, you *naughty* little pinta ; just sit
where Mummy puts you !" ? :-)
Seriously though, we used to have the same problem before moving
here : we could guarantee that the milk would arrive but the time
varied between 05:00 and 10:00 - makes for dry cornflakes for
breakfast if you unfortunate to get thirsty the previous night,
in addition to bottled cheese when you get home that evening !
I made a little shelter for the bottles [I'm just too soft-hearted]
but then found that if the milkperson had his/her hands full or
was in a hurry or was simply feeling bloody-minded, the milk was
just left to the side anyway. So much for that cunning plan ...
We ended up with a milkman who was efficient and reliable so that
was that - and in addition, we moved down to Lovely Lively Lychpit
where we have had no problems (even with the change of dairies).

The milk minder is an container that asks as a cooler and stops birds from
opeing the tops. They are officially recognised by most major dairies and
the milkman we've *used will put the milk in them if left out.

FWIW I have been burgled twice and on both occassions there wasn't any
milk on the step. No milk on the step will not put a burglar off!

| come on, Dave, don't be obtuse. No milk on the doorstep might not
put a burglar off, but *some* milk on the doorstep is an indicator
that should be avoided if possible.

Come on now, concentrate. I said I stopped having my milk delivered
BECAUSE the milkman came too late. My choice-yes? As far as I am
concerned, if the milkman can't get to me when I want my milk then I
will make other arrangements to get it. I did not want a twee little milk
minder, unless there is one that can keep my milk as cool as the
fridge. I wanted my milk fresh. Not hanging about all day. I simply
wanted a service on my terms. ("The customer is always Right"?)
This brings back the point of monopolies. If there is no competition
there is no incentive to provide a better service. Believe it or
not I can remember the days when you could count on your milk being
on your doorstep first thing in the morning. As this no longer applies
in my area, I am not prepared to take advantage of the 'service'.

| Our regular milkman normally delivers between 5.30 and 6.00 am.
There have been one or two hiccups (as described previously in this
note) but, all in all, the milk can be put into the fridge before
we go to work.
I only hope the milkman at our new house will be as early!!

| I'm obviously behind the times. We moved into a flat on Brighton
Hill nearly five years ago (I'm still there by the way), and after
trying Jobs and Co-Op we had the same problem with both. Milk was
delivered too late and they always presumed that everyone in our road
didn't go out to work and always called for their money at 5.00pm
on a Friday. Repeated requests for them to call back at a more
suitable time failed and consequently we bought milk from the little
M&W shop that is on the corner of our road. Much, much better although
the supermarkets are cheaper.
I wasn't aware of the monopoly and wonder what is happening to this
country. First the crappy waste collection and now pathetic milk
deliveries....
