94.0. "LOTUS insurance DEMO/opportunity" by FDCV07::TORMEY () Sun Mar 18 1990 09:30

    Is there a large application specific need for lotus in the insurance
    industry ? My group provides the product management for Lotus 1-2-3
    on VMS and ALL-IN-ONE. We are trying to develop some demo's, or
    convince lotus to.
    Any suggestions ?
    any current leads ?

    Lotus has dedicated sales support for DEC to use
    They are also pushing all business to DEC, no direct orders through
    Lotus for now

94.1A1 Lotus at London LifeTROA09::GRAYSONMon Mar 19 1990 11:2123
    London Life of Canada is currently installing a 200 seat LAN for
    their Head office in London Ontario. They are slated to expand to
    several thousand seats in the next 3 years (we have an order for
    700 Decstation 316+/sx machines).

    Right now London Life is formulating their office automation strategy
    - and desktop all-in-one looks like the way to go. While this is
    not an all-in-one under VMS application - This may be your area -
    If so 1-2-3 is very much a part of their day to day need and will
    reside on 3100 servers under PCSA.

    My guess is that the actuarial department, which is under heavy
    pressure to offload from the mainframe (IBM3090)- will be moving
    both APL and spreadsheet function to the LAN. At some point the
    PCs will max out - leaving the need for an APL/SAS/Misc Server for
    power work under VMS (and probably windows). This may be the demo
    we need... Power spredsheets for insurance actuarials who have started
    to learn Lotus 1-2-3 but are under size constraints on the PC.

    Let me know if this helps. Also let me know of othe non-notes replies!

    Thanks
