84.0. "UK Life and Pensions Software" by YUPPY::MOSSMAN (A lone mongoose in a world of snakes) Mon Oct 30 1989 08:00

    I know I'm taking a risk in setting myself up but I just can"t seem
    to find this info anywhere in a consolidated form so I am going
    to ask the following dumb question :-

   " Does anybody in the UK have a list of Life and Pensions policy
    administration software available on VAX ? "

    Please do all shout at once. Tell me I ought to know this myself.

    But ....

    .... also can we use this notesfile as a repository for our
    combined knowledge of this old hoary topic.

    Yours, in anticipation, Michael.

84.1BIO - available in BelgiumYUPPY::MOSSMANA lone mongoose in a world of snakesMon Oct 30 1989 08:068
    Just to show willing, I'm going to start this off by saying that
    I only have personal knowledge of one WORKING system and that is
    the BIO package, available via Digital Belgium. What I am not quite
    so sure of is whether this software house could actually support
    any sales made in the UK in the short term.

84.2Got a sheet of paper? That's the list.WARDER::FULTONH.V? Yes Yes!Tue Oct 31 1989 12:4617
    I know you know about this, Mike, but for general consumption:

    Sherwood Financial systems has a Pensions New Business and
    Administration system for Financial Institutions, available now.

    Life New Business, and Life-linked Pensions New Business are scheduled
    for mid 1990. Life Administration, and Life-Linked Pensions
    Administration is scheduled for "End 1990". They are, I believe,
    talking about developing the Admin systems on IBM.....

    Contact Jim Watson 0452-500777

    There are other pensions systems, intended for company administration
    of their OWN pensions schemes, not for the Financial services
    companies. Let me know if you want any info in this area.

84.3What about Heywoods ?YUPPY::MOSSMANA lone mongoose in a world of snakesWed Nov 01 1989 06:259
    re .2

    Thank you, Gordon. As you say, this confirms my own suspicions.

    Just for the record, is Heywoods one of those in-house pensions
    packages ?

84.4YESWARDER::FULTONH.V? Yes Yes!Wed Nov 01 1989 08:5517
    I haven't talked to Heywoods for about 12 months now, so if anyone
    has an update, please speak up!

    Last I heard, Heywood had a pensions system for medium to large
    company pension schemes. At the time it was PDP based, and a VAX
    version was on its way within a month or two.

    Contact Ken Liscombe or Melanie Mardon on 061-941-4053

    other company schemes that I've heard of;
    Hogg robinson (not actively promoted); UPS; Dominion (under
    development?); and at one stage Adatco/Apricot were developing one.

    Can you post further details on Bio here, Mike?

84.5A bit more on BIOYUPPY::MOSSMANA lone mongoose in a world of snakesThu Nov 02 1989 06:3326
    re .-1

    >> Can you post further details on Bio here, Mike?

    I will give a fuller write-up when nexy in my office but in the
    meantime here is a little bit about BIO.

    They are Belgium and offer a fully paramaterised general purpose
    insurance admin system on a VAX based upon Powerhouse.

    The package is really a shell of standard screens with all input
    and output routines built in. The beauty of the system is that the
    customer makes it unique by adding user-defined routines for specific
    policies and products.

    BIO is relational and includes comprehensive facilities for client
    based control and enquiries. It is probably significant that they
    were part of our display at the recent CAPA show in Paris and created
    a lot of interest with insurance visitors from all over Europe.

    I cannot at this stage make any comment on availability or support
    in the UK.
