| The amount of free memory under DOS is largely irrelevant as Windows
uses memory differently. That, however, does not fix your problem.
I'm intrtigued: I've not come across this at all during development or
usage of TDL. At the risk of being boring, could you get the exact
error message, and also tell me how it is displayed (is it a pop-up
box, does Windows end and a DOS message appear, whatever?). Can you
identify which application is giving the message? (Pgm mgr, Windows,
TDL itself?)
I don't honestly hold much hope of being able to fix it, but the more
info the better.

| If all else fails, copy her CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to a floppy and
post them here.

| It's a pop-up box, and is being delivered by progman.
It is the standard message you get if you open millions of windows. If you
need the exact wording, I'll produce it on mine, but what is says is
"There is insufficient memory to run (poss start) this application. Close one
or more windows (poss apllications) and try again."
This, when only progman is running. It doesn't drop to DOS and windows
continues quite happily. In fact, immed. after receiving this error from tdl,
you can start 1/2 dozen excel & word sessions. Maybe more, I got bored of
trying and had proved my point.
Also, resources used is, as I said, still low. As for the config.sys &
autoexec.bat, if I completely fail, I'll bring them in. But there is really
nothing peculiar at all.
I'm going to try the latest version later. Is it possible that since Wendy
has gone from an old(ish) version straight to 119 that teh conversion is
asking for too much memory ? It doesn't bomb straight away, there is a delay
of possibly 10 - 15 seconds as it tries to start up and tehn it dies. Nothing
actually appears on the screen ? Maybe I'll try it having removed here
database.

| The database...of course. Remember that there was incompatibility a few
versions ago? I know Wendy went from an old version (X.114?) to the
latest, but I can't remember when I did the non-upgradable change - it
could well have been around then.
Either way, certainly try it with no database.

| Removing the database didn't help.
I'm going to replace all the files and see what happens.

Wendy is bringing the machine home at the weeekend, I'll sit at home and see
how I get on, I'll let you know.

to do with the program that causes the error...

I'll get the config.sys and autoexec.bat today and post them.

| Also, you might like to check what mode of windows she's using, and if
it's 386 mode, check whether or not she has a permanent swap file
enabled. With 5meg of memory, I'd suspect something around 10 meg of
free, contiguous disk space is required. If she's not in 386 mode with
a permanent swap file of at least 10 meg, (and she should be), I'll
need to see autoexec.bat/config.sys and the output from mem/c. As Keef
pointed out, free space in conventional DOS is largely irrelevant.
What's happening in exten/expanded memory is much more important.
Laurie.
