81.0. "reflect its contents..." by SAC::EDMUNDS (Who's a furry mouse curser, then?) Mon Dec 21 1992 10:33

    New version - X.115 - available. Copy

	sac::disk$user25:[edmunds]todolist.zip

    Unzip to your TDLFILES directory and follow the readme.txt (the only
    files existing users need are the *.tdl and tdl.exe files). Comments on
    the README.TXT file welcome. A proper installation procedure will come
    one day. Fixed and outstanding bugs as follows:

    Closed in X.115
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Overdue date colour not always correct - this is not actually fixed as
    I was unable to reproduce it. If anyone else experiences this, please
    let me know.
    Implement mono support - there is a Monochrome option on Preferences
    now. If selected, all text is in black; overdue dates are flagged with
    an asterisk, and items are indented according to priority.
    Accelator keys for Preferences form added
    Allow filename on command line - defaults are as before, but if TDL is
    started with a filename on the command line, that file is loaded
    instead as the database file. NOTE: expect this to change to
    "/d=file.typ" in a soon release (d=database). This will allow other
    command line options.
    Database name is now shown in the status bar when it is not describing
    button actions.
    Default double click action (Postpone) fixed.
    A number of bugs around the phonebook display have been fixed.
    Closed items display now works correctly
    Recognizes when the date changes, and updates display accordingly
    (useful if you leave TDL running overnight)
    Statistics button removed from button bar.
    .ZIP file produced with all necessary files included.
    README.TXT written.
    ABOUT section added. Note: all beta test versions (which is all there
    is right now) are registered shareware versions.
    Seconds removed from time display in title bar.
    Bug adding new item and dismissing phone dialogue box whilst it is
    blank fixed.
    Change caption on phonebook button from "OK" to "Close"
    Change version number to X.115
    Fixed spelling mistake in status bar for Telephone Button
    Button size reduced
    Status line moved to immediately below buttons
    Outstanding for X.115
    Susi, I will personally knit you a floppy with TDL on it this evening.
    The ZIP file was, of course, meant only for the boys. X.114 may be
    good; truth is, '115 is better and, with a flourish of my wand, '116
    will be better still...
    How about if you post your to do list here and we boys will do all your
    actions for you? Then you can stay at home and watch Neighbours, cook,
    have babies, read Mills and Boon, etc...
    [For the benefit of those who have not met Susi, let me say that I am
    safely ensconsed in my Englishman's castle a good fifteen miles away
    from Her, which means I may get away with this...]
81.10LARVAE::THAYER_SA beer and a chatTue Dec 22 1992 16:1414
    But Keith, posting my to do list here would be even more difficult than
    the things we've already been discussing.  I mean, it's a miracle that
    I can even use Notes, let alone post a list here.  But if you're really
    interested I'll re-type it (once I've filed my nails).
    By the way, how can I lend you my Zircom if you're 15 miles away?
    And how come I get a capital letter ('from Her'), I am not used to such
    reverence and respect.
    an angry, emaciated cat each time a new bug comes up.
    Keith,
    Don't dispair, Thomas can cope with all of this (he's not a girl).
    However, he has an interesting TDL of his own vocal variety (it's
    called me-ah-ahow, I believe you have it on tape somewhere?!?)
    Perhaps you and he can confurr, for when you incorporate your
PS  Does this mean we are getting X.116, which you promised WEEKS
Thomas buttons?  Button bar groups (as in OBJECTworks)?
    My personal name is a reference (and no-one has picked this up yet) to
    England all the time that Mr Brown in is Brussels.  OK OK, I'll change
    it soon.
    What do you (really) want in X.116 anyway? I've already tripled the
81.28LARVAE::THAYER_SOh dear, what's that?!?Tue Jan 05 1993 08:2513
It's OK, the one thing that concerns me is that people might think
'TT' (as in 1,1) stands for 'Thomas Tank'.
OBJECTworks lets you assign different button bars to different
compound objects.  Why not have different button bars for different
TDLs... i.e, if I open my Thomas TDL all my buttons will be Thomas
buttons, if I open my work TDL I can have a different set of buttons,
if I open my outer space TDL I can have another set of buttons, etc.
How about split screen TDLs, i.e Thomas TDL in one window, work TDL in
another.
    OK... a less demanding requirement:
81.34SAC::EDMUNDSNo heavy lorriesFri Jan 08 1993 15:0331
    Need some agreement/argument over one thing.
    X.116 will support - amongst other things - alarms and multiple
    databases. I'd like some agreement or alternate suggestions over how to
    implement the automatic loading of multiple databases. Currentyl it
    works like this:
    	If a database is specified on the command line involking TDL, it is
    	loaded (eg, C:/PROGGIES/TDL C:/DATA/MYTDL.DAT loads MYTDL.DAT  as a
    	database). Sorry, can't do backslashes in eXcursion for some
    	reason.
    	If no datafile is specified on the command line, then TDLDATA.DAT
    	in C:/ or TDLFILES if defined is loaded. If a datafile is specified
    	on the command line, TDLDATA.DAT is only loaded if it exists (ie,
    	it is not created).
    Proposal:
    	TDLDATA.DAT will always be loaded unless /N is on the command line.
    	Multiple databases can be specified on the command line with
    	individual /D qualifiers, eg:
    		TDL /N /D=C:/data/tdl1.dat /D=m:/tdl2.dat
    		(the /D is a forward slash, the dirs are backslashes)
    Does that sound practical? Suggestions?
Wouldn't using the same database, but perhaps colouring one type of entry
differently be better ?
Or perhaps a suffix/prefix/type of record on each line, stored in the one
database, which could be selected as a display option ? i.e. Display
(P)ersonal, (W)ork or (B)oth ?
What will happen when your home one says phone the Gas Board at 11:00 and
unfort. you're at work ?
I don't like the idea, and I do realise I don't have to use it, of having
more that one database.
.40Wouldn't using the same database, but perhaps colouring one type of entry
.40differently be better ?
    How many colours can you have??? I'm already using three. You can do
    this today using priorities...I don't understand any argument AGAINST
    multiple databases; like you say, you dont have to use them. I'm merely
    seeking a syntax for supporting them.
.40What will happen when your home one says phone the Gas Board at 11:00 and
.40unfort. you're at work ?
    Then the alarm will go off (if the database is open). Alarms respond to
    all databases, not just the one displayed. The implementation at the
    moment (on my development version) is that all databases opened are
    displayed by name under the File menu. The currently displayed database
    has a check mark (tick) by it, and the current db can be changed from
    that menu.
>    I accept you may not want to use it (who DOES use all the features of
Yes. It seems unnecc. complex to have more files. From the trivial - you have
to remember their names/location to the one more file to lose/delete/etc.
To turn it around, what does it give you ?
