| Barbara, first, I apopogize for the lateness of this answer. I have some
knowledge of the DEC-10 but not very much. Let me try to put things in
perspective:
1. Geographic Area and District
On the DEC-10, the Sink Data has 3 parts: TYPE and LOC and ID. When TYPE is
"GA", this means Geographic Area. When "GA" is used, the LOC field
may be USA, GIA, EUR or blank where blank returns data for all 3
geographic areas combined.
When TYPE is set to "GD", this means Geographic District - in this case
the LOC field can be blank or can be filled with a geographic area and
the ID field can be blank or can be filled with a specific district code.
The main purpose of this is to allow a user to retrieve data for a specific
district in a specific geographic area. (Alternatively, by leaving the
ID field blank, a user could retrieve data for all districts.
On the VAX, If you enter a Geographic Area (USA, GIA or EUR) and you leave
the District field blank then you would retrieve data for all districts
in the Geographic Area you specified. If you enter a district code, you
will retrieve data for only that particular district. One note of caution,
sometimes there are identical district codes in Europe and the US, therefore
if you do enter a district code it is best to also enter a Geographic
Area - this will prevent you from getting a misleading answer. It is
probably best if you enter a Geographic Area and leave the District
field blank.
2. Planning Group and Fulfillment Cut
Generally speaking, you should use the defaults which include all Planning
Groups and all fulfillment areas (GIA, USA and EUR). These fileds are used
to get a finer cut of the data and to track the various data types more
closely to the Ship Plan. (Ship Plan itself is generated by Planning Group).
For yourself and any user who needs a finer cut of the data than the defaults
allow, you should call me and set up a meeting to discuss your needs. Please
do not hesitate to contact me if you need further assistance.
