84.0. "Data on the DEC-10" by SSVAX::SAURI () Wed Nov 02 1988 13:49

Does anyone know for sure what is going to happen to the old (or
current) data being stored on the DEC-10. I heard at the training
classes that some of it would be loaded onto the new (VAX) system.

Would it be of interest to anyone if the current DEC-10 data was
to be extracted to an ASCII file which could then be copied by whoever
(or is it whomever) would like to use such data.

Is this possible or feasible? Has it been suggested before?

Thank you for your attention. - Frank Sauri (SSVAX::SAURI DTN 223-5285)

Data from the 10 is going to be loaded onto the VAX. The amount
of history varies according to datatype. For example, SPP history
will go back 3 fiscal years plus current - whereas Backlog history
is for only four rolling quarters.

As far as putting it on the VAX to then be copied directly by users...
we have talked about various ways of providing history. One
consideration is that the data needs to be associated with relevant
reference data in order to be meaningful. It can't just be "copied"
over from the 10 and then "copied" in turn by users. That's why we are in
the process of extracting history data in a format that can then
be loaded into the same VAX Relational database (and accessed via
the same screens) as the current VAX data. This is one of our
    primary efforts now.

    Hope this FYI helps ....
