I maintain two Supergroups, MASS1 AND MASS2. I gave Margaret and Julie the appropriate information in the training class to transfer them over from the DEC-10. I have been "experimenting" with the Aggregate Functions screens and so far have not had any success in finding out if they are on the new system. Two questions: 1. How do I find out if they are on the new system? 2. Once in place, is the functionality available to use the Supergroups with the invoiced shipments screen? Comment on using NOTES: I totally agree with the concept, but it is very difficult to deal with the slowness. I timed with a stop watch this morning and it took three minutes for the typing to appear on the screen. Any suggestions?

A comment on your notes comment: > Comment on using NOTES: > I totally agree with the concept, but it is very difficult to deal > with the slowness. This is definitely a Network traffic problem, as users company-wide complain about the 'slowness' of using Notes interactively at times (this is especially true if you are routed through one of the high traffic areas to get to your destination). One way to get around this, for reading notes anyway, is to submit a batch job on your local VAX node to run off-hours: $NOTES OPEN {conference_name} EXTRACT/UNSEEN/SEEN NOTES.TXT *.* CLOSE EXIT $EXIT This way you get to read the notes (using TYPE or an editor) at your leisure and without the network traffic getting in your way. There are also many good procedures available through the TOOLSHED that will monitor, extract and/or mail notes for you. /ken
59.2 | I have the Supergroups | CINEMX::COPUSER78 | Tom Malomo | Thu Oct 20 1988 16:57 | 9 |
Here is a partial answer on Supergroups: I am in possession of the paperwork that users turned over to Margaret and Julie. I will be setting up the Supergroups on the VAX. It shouldn't be much longer now, maybe a week or two at most. When they are set up, I will let you know via Message of the Day (MOD). Thanks for your patience. If you have any questions give me a call: Tom Malomo 269-2411.
59.3 | another hint with notes | HBO::MARINO | JUDY | Mon Oct 24 1988 14:26 | 19 |
Another hint for speeding up the use of notes if the network is slow is to write your reply in a file (using the editor of choice) BEFORE entering notes. Then when you OPEN COPIS_USERS, all you have to do is enter the reply rather than writing it interactively from scratch. notes > write/noedit text.txt or notes > reply/noedit text.txt (Be sure to position yourself at the note you want to respond to before replying) Judy Marino F/MIC 269-2068 |
