8.0. "Where are the docs?" by MERCAN::VEREY (Paul Verey) Fri Nov 27 1992 13:18

Are there any on-line documents for the IET11?

I need to know what the API is like and decide whether to use RTI
or code directly.

We are expecting to have on-line documentation available soon, for
Digital internal use only. As soon as we receive it from National
Instruments, we will announce its availablity in this conference.

This will only be an electronic version of the manuals which are
already supplied in the IET11 product kit. The IET11 is a DDH product,
and is owned by the vendor. There will be no separate Digital documents,
apart from the SSA (also supplied in the kit).

If you don't have an IET11 but would still like the documentation, you
can order an FRU consisting of just the software and documentation.
See Topic 4 of this conference for part numbers.

Alternatively, you can contact National Instruments directly.
Their technical hotline is in Austin, Texas on:

    	+1 (512) 794 0100
or	+1 (800) IEEE 488 (toll-free in US and Canada)

    fax +1 (512) 794 5678

In your case, you may also want to try the British sales office, (which
    is also in Newbury) at:

    	21 Kingfisher Court
    	Hambridge Road
    	Newbury, Berks RG14 5SJ

    	+44 635 523 545
    fax +44 635 523 154

(These details taken from the 1992 National Instruments catalogue)

The API is called NI-488.2M (TM) and is National Instruments' generic
IEEE-488 programming interface, which is portable across a variety of
platforms and interface boards. The only language interface supplied
is for C. There is a set of basic functions providing open, read,
write etc., as well as configuration/control functions. There is also
a set of higher-level functions implementing the standard Controller
protocols defined in IEEE-488.2 (for example Send, Receive, SendSetup,
    FindRQS and so on).

DECrti deals with the IET11 as part of the generic IEEE-488 icon, along
with the IEZ11. Both interface types look pretty much identical in the
icon. The icon decides which hardware type it has to drive based on the
special file (i.e. device) name you enter in the icon setup menu.

    Hope this helps,

    Mike
