TC-GPIB (IET11) IBDIAG INSTRUCTIONS
-----------------------------------
( for Digital Equipment Service internal use only )
Vendor's P/No. DEC P/No.
gpib0, gpib1 :
IET11 Intfce Card (TC-GPIB) 181235-01 FD-35535-01
wrap plug :
Wrap-back plug for IET11 181941-01 FD-35536-01
Before running ibdiag, be sure that no GPIB cables or wrap plugs are
connected to the TC-GPIB. Run ibdiag by typing the following command:
ibdiag <Return>
Press <Return> when prompted, and ibdiag will test gpib0, and,
if present, gpib1. A series of dots will be printed while the tests
are running. If no errors occur, enter 'q' when prompted to quit
ibdiag. The hardware is installed and functioning properly.
If an error does occur, an error message will be printed and you will
be asked if you want to continue testing. Do not continue testing.
Enter 'n' to stop testing, and then 'q' to quit. Be sure all cables
have been disconnected, and run ibdiag again. If an error still
occurs, record the error message that appears, and call your Service
representative.
If a GPIB wrap plug is available, a more complete diagnostic may
be run. Remove all cables and wrap plugs from the TC-GPIB and type:
ibdiag -w <Return>
Press <Return> when prompted. The regular ibdiag tests will be run,
but when the tests are finished you will be prompted to install a wrap
plug. Install the wrap plug on the proper board (gpib0 is to the right
when looking from the front of the computer, gpib1 isd to the left),
and press <Return>. The special wrap plug tests wil then be run.
IMPORTANT : Be sure that the wrap plug is not installed when
the non-wrap-plug tests are run.
If you have two TC-GBIP boards in one machine, you can run
an additional test which transfers data between the two boards.
At the command line type:
ibdiag -d <Return>
Press <Return> when prompted. After the regular tests are finished,
you will be prompted to connect the two boards with a GPIB cable.
Attach the cable and press <Return> . A special test which transfers
a package of data back and forth between the two boards will then be
run. You will then be asked to remove the cable.
IMNPORTANT : Be sure the cable is not connected to either board
when the regular tests are run.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADVANCED IBDIAG INSTRUCTIONS
The ibdiag iutility has several advanced features which are not
documented in the Getting Started manual. To activate these features,
run ibdiag. When prompted to press <Return> to test the boards,
enter '0' instead of just pressing <Return> . A menu of extra
features will appear :
<Return> do all tests
t do specific tests
l loop one or more tests
p toggle print flag
s toggle single step flag
1 test board gpib1
0 test board gpib0
d do two board data transfer test
w run wrap plug test
q quit
These features are explained in greater detail in the following
paragraphs.
<Return> do all tests
This command runs all of the tests, just as if you had
pressed <Return> without invoking the extra features.
If two boards are installed, only one will be tested.
See 'test board gpib0' and 'test board gpib1' below.
t do specific tests
After choosing this command, you will be prompted to enter
the numbers of the test(s) you want to run. Enter either a single
test number, or a range of numbers specified by a beginning and
ending test number separated by a hyphen (-). For example, to
run test 100 through 299 inclusive, you would enter 100-299.
Notice that there are gaps in the test numbers, so that if you
choose a number or numbers for which no test exists, no dots
or error messagesa will be printed, and you will be returned
to the menu. Wrap plug tests (500-510) will not be run unless
either the '-w' command line option was used, or the 'w' menu
option is run. The test numbers are:
1-80, 100-160 NAT4882 tests
300-339 Turbo488 tests
400-403 TC-GPIB board-specific tests
500-510 Wrap plug tests

TC-GPIB (IET11) IBDIAG INSTRUCTIONS (DS internal use only)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
l loop one or more tests
After choosing this command, you will be prompted to enter
the numbers of the test(s) you want to run. ibdiag will then
continuously repeat the selected range of tests until you
stop it by pressing <control-C>. Do not try to loop on a range
of tests which includes both wrap-plug and non-wrap-plug tests,
since you will then have to install and remove the wrap plug
for each loop.
p toggle print flag
This option toggles the printing flag, which is OFF when ibdiag
is first run. When printing is ON and tests are run, the message
'starting test X', where X is the test number, will be printed
before each test is run.
s toggle single step flag
This option toggles the sigle stepping flag, which is OFF when
ibdiag is first run. When single stepping is ON, each test
will be run one step at a time. Before each step is executed,
ibdiag will print the register being written to or read from,
and the value to be written, or the value expected to be read.
Press <Return> to execute the step, or enter 's' to toggle
single stepping back OFF and continue testing normally.
Some tests, such as tests 400 and 401, cannot be stepped through.
1 test board gpib1
This option makes gpib1 be the board under test.
All tests run after this command will be run on gpib1.
0 test board gpib0
This option makes gpib0 be the board under test.
All tests run after this command will be run on gpib0.
d do two board data transfer test
This option requires both gpib1 and gpib0 to be installed.
You will be prompted to connect the two boards with a GPIB cable.
The transfer test passes a packet of data back and forth between
the two boards, and prints an error message if incorrect data is
received on either end. The data transfer test has no test number,
so you cannot run it using the 't' or 'l' menu options.
w run wrap plug test
This option allows you to run the wrap plug tests (500-510)
if the '-w' command line option was used.Selecting this option
will prompt you to install a wrap plug, runs the wrap plug tests,
and sets a flag which allows the wrap plug tests to be chosen
by the 't' and 'l' menu options.
q quit
This command exits ibdiag.
