159.0. "KAV30 reset by induced electromagnetic noise on transceiver cable" by FRIXEU::OLOBARDI (Marco - E&RT Mktg Prod Mgr - Italy) Tue Jul 30 1996 12:08
Hello,
one of our Tech OEM customers has problems in certifying their
products based on KAV30 under some electromagnetic tests (their
systems have to go into power stations..).
The test norm is CENELEC EN50082.2 and the specific test
is ENV 50141, which calls for applying an inducted frequency
to cables (through a clamp) and verifying the equipment works correctly.
The frequencies applied must vary from 150KHz to 80 MHz.
In this case, the equipment stands ok at high frequencies, but it
fails when the frequency goes under 200 KHz which somehow forces a reset.
The equipment is a VME crate including a KAV30 CPU, connected to
Ethernet through a transceiver cable BME3H of some 5 meters,
connected to an H4005 transceiver.
The induced frequency on the transceiver cable resets the KAV30 CPU
which shows a 05 code on the console and waits for operator commands
to restart operations of the VAXELN application.
The rest of the VME cards still work correctly but the system
as a whole must be reset.
The customer noticed that the shield of the transceiver cable goes to
pin #4 and goes into the connector of the KAV30 (and wonders what
happens on the board then).
They also tried to cut it and connect it to ground, without any result.
Can anybody give us a hint on what must be done in this case to
pass the test? Different cable? Placing a capacitor somewhere?
By the way, they were supposed to reach certification before
the end of the week :-{
Thanks in advance for any help
Ciao ciao
Marco
