143.0. "KAV30 Firmware Upgrade. - order numbers now available." by EICMFG::CUSHNIE (John Cushnie, Digital-PCS, Munich Tel :+49-89-68004-545, DTN 873-4545) Wed Nov 09 1994 11:20

                       KAV30 Firmware Upgrade.
                      =========================

Using the KAV30 Firmware Upgrade the KAV30 now has the ability to boot
from DECnet/OSI using MOP V4 protocol, as well as MOP V3 as before.

There are three different kits, one for each major revision of the KAV30
  product, ie REV A0x, B0x and C0x.

Each kit will consist of a 2 EPROM set to replace the standard KAV30
Boot Eproms, and the new Chapter 2 of the Hardware release notes.

The part numbers for the three different kits are as follows :

            2G-E242A-01 - revision A0x KAV30s
            2G-E242A-02 - revision B0x KAV30s
            2G-E242A-03 - revision C0x KAV30s

Information regarding the installation of the KAV30 Firmware Upgrade is
documented in the KAV30 documentation, and can be performed by customers,
but correct handling procedures should be observed.

Information regarding configuring the KAV30 to boot from DECnet/OSI
using MOP V4, is documented in the new Chapter 2 of the Hardware release
  notes.

This KAV30 Firmware Upgrade does not effect any other functionality of
the KAV30 product, except the ability to boot from DECnet/OSI using MOP V4.

The kits can be ordered from Digital-PCS, Munich.

                               --o0o--

    Hi,

see note 137.4 of this conference....

There is an upcoming ECO which will eliminate the need of any user
intervention to boot DECnet/OSI etc. (firmware correction in rtVAX300)

    Hello Thomas,

Does this upcoming ECO will free PRB1 for customer use and integrate
MOP V3 and MOP V4 in the rtVAX300 chip boot roms ?
When will that upcoming ECO be available ?

    Philippe Vouters

PS: I have a customer needing to boot from DECnet/OSI and have
    diagnostics roms in PRB1.

    Hi Phillipe,

yes, this will 'free' PRB1 - as long as your customer does not use SCSI
boot (and he won't, since he wants to use OSI etc...)

The actual availability of KAV30's with this feature depends on
production, we believe it will be June before modules come out of
    factory.

Does your customer buy new modules or does he want to 'upgrade' ?
Upgrade will be difficult to manage and he would have to pay for that,
since this is an 'enhancement' to already available features... on the
other hand we could offer a 'test-module' as a loaner to 'smooth' his
    transition...

    regards,

    Thomas
