138.0. "P2 Pinout?" by VELENO::MICHIELI (Is IBM DEClining ?) Thu Sep 01 1994 14:59

    Hi all,
    my customer, Alenia, need to know the P2 pinning for KAV-30.

    I've take a look into the EICMFG:: KAV30 HW and SW docs and have had a
    browse with the DECW$VIEW (do you remember the 'paperless office').

    Before I start to print the whole manual to find out an answer, I'd
    like to post it here: which manual, document describe the customer
    request? (Please post the name.PS file, wherever possible).

    Furthermore, I'm aware of the P2 pinout of the AXPvme boards (some SCSI
    and timing pins on A and C rows plus power supply on B) so apologize
    about my ignorance on KAV30. My own question is: is P2 on KAV30
    completely empty? That is no signals on it? Is yes, then this answer
    the customer question, of course.

    Best regards,
    	Gabriele MICHIELI - dtn 870-2203

138.1P2 is not empty...EICMFG::KAV30_SUPPThu Sep 01 1994 16:2711
    The P2 connector is used for the VSB bus and is NOT empty.
    The pinning is not described in any KAV30 documentation (as far as we
    can remember...). It is described in the VME spec - there might also
    be some DEC documentation elsewhere (not in the KAV30 area) where you
    could look for it. Basically, 'outer' rows of the connector are used
    - row 'a' and 'c'; row 'b' is standard VME.

    Hope this helps...

138.2P2: C=STD, are A or B used in KAV30?VELENO::MICHIELIIs IBM DEClining ?Thu Sep 01 1994 18:4911
    Hi Thomas,
    thnx for replying. Please, let me better understand what you mean.
    A simple yes/not is OK, of course.
    The row B is 'VME Standard'. Therefore no problem.
    The row A and C, the 'outer' one, are customer defined. Then when you
    say 'The pinning is not described in any KAV30 documentation ' can we
    assume that ONLY row C is used and A,B are free (NO SIGNALS)?

    Regards,

    PS: Apologise for misleading terminology.
138.3Row A and C are NOT usable unless for VSBEICMFG::KAV30_SUPPFri Sep 02 1994 10:3613
    Row B is VME, that's standard. The two outer rows A and C are used for
    the VSB bus which is an option the KAV30 has. This is a subsystem bus
    which the KAV30 implements, therefore the rows are NOT usaable for
    anything else. The VSB bus is an integral part of the KAV30 which is NOT
    removable and can NOT be disabled. Simple answer is: You can only
    utiliye the rows A and C for VSB bus compatible cards nothing else.
    Some other boards have for example SCSI comming out of these rows, the
    KAV30 has VSB.

    Hope this helps.

138.4NO 'free' pins on P2...EICMFG::KAV30_SUPPFri Sep 02 1994 13:295

    ... to make it chrystal clear: NO, you can not use row A and C on P2.

    ... and of course I say A and 'B' instead of A and 'C', meaning the
    'outer' rows. Sorry.

    Thank you everybody again,
