133.0. "KAV30 booting from OSI VMS node" by TRN01::FORMIA () Fri Jul 22 1994 16:36

    Hi,

    I'm not able to get KAV30 boot from Host
    VMS 5.5-2 Decnet OSI 56B node
    ELN sys version 4.4

    I get ..... LOAD REQUEST FAILED FROM .........
    Reason = TIMEOUT

    I verified the right decnet configuration and handling
    of MOP operation; other DEC nodes are booting....

    I found on ELN conference a note of mounths ago with no answer
    reported the same problem.

    Can anybody help me?

    	Thanks in advance,

133.1Boot from DECnet OSI Not supported on the rtVAX300 processorEICMFG::CUSHNIEMon Jul 25 1994 11:2133
Hi Marino,

The version of MOP used in DECnet/OSI is not supported by the boot firmaware
on the rtVAX300 processor, and therefore by default is also not supported
by the KAV30.

However, VAXELN does provide support for the new MOP protocol, and the
rtVAX300 is the only VAXELN supported target that does not support download
boot from a DECnet/OSI host.

There are three options :

     1. Use a DECnet phase IV host for downloading the KAV30s.
        - this is the only work around at the moment, and is fully supported.

     2. Request a firmware modification to the rtVAX300 to support DECnet/OSI.
        - this is an 'unlikely to be realised' option, unless a good business
          case can be put forward to justify the effort required.

     3. Request a firmware modification to the KAV30 boot eproms to support
        DECnet/OSI.
        - this is a more realistic option to get support for DECnet/OSI, and
          would involve development of new Boot eproms that will support the
          new MOP protocol used by DECnet/OSI. If this option is required
          Digital-PCS can custom quote for the work required.

If you have a strong business case to support modification of the rtVAX300/KAV30
then please contact the product manager (EICMFG::KETTNER)
