We have a KAV30 customer who is having trouble booting from the SCSI disk. They are using a digital disk DSP3210 (it seems that this is very similar to RZ28). When they boot from the disk, they get an error: DKA0 failed - errorcode 000008C2. If they downline load an ELN image, the disk is accessable and the self test at >>> is successful. I have had no problems disk booting, but I am using an RZ55. Do we support the disk this customer is using? What does the error code mean? Thanks, Sumithra

131.1 | Check the ebuild file | EICMFG::CUSHNIE | Mon Jun 13 1994 15:28 | 12
Hi Sumithra, Check that the customer has the correct boot method selected in the System Characteristics menu in Ebuild, ie set to DISK. If this is not the problem then the problem is probably the disk itself. Hope this helps Regards John Cushnie@PCS.

John, The boot method is "disk". If ELN can access the disk, and read or write to it, should it not be able to also boot from it? Any idea on what the error means? Thanks, Sumithra
131.3 | %SYSTEM-E-FILESTRUCT... | EICMFG::KAV30_SUPP | Mon Jun 13 1994 19:53 | 21
Sumithra, if you do 'exit 2242' (which is 8C2 hex) on a VMS machine, you get: %SYSTEM-E-FILESTRUCT unsupported file structure level (most ELN errors are the same as VMS...) Since the disk is accessible from ELN, the message is misleading. The only explanation we have so far is that the DSP3120 has a different timing behaviour than the rzxx disk we (and you) use. Question: is the DSP3120 supported by ELN (latest version - we do not have the latest SPD/SSA...) ? If no, the customer should use a supported disk... If yes, we will investigate further where in the boot code the problem is... best regards, Thomas

Thanks, Thomas. I am waiting for the customer to come back from his vacation. If I need any more help, I will get back to you. Sumithra |
