Hi, I don't know if this is the right place for this or not. If it isn't, moderator please advise. I received a call from a customer who is trying to find out where they can get (purchase) a specific VSB module. They call it a VSB Overlay module. They have KAV30 systems that they have been getting from Fisher Controls who in turn gets them from us (CSS?). On the back of the VME bus is a 3x4 card that has 3 female edge connectors. Some of the numbers on this card are: V803J2B rev C 01-00100-30 rev D These cards started coming in on their systems after Nov 92. I have no idea if these are memory expansion (VSB) or thin net or whatever other VSB options that are available? I have a call into CSS to see if they may remember what that module is. The customer has already called Fisher Control and ran into a dead end. IF anyone in this CONF can help, I'd sure appreciate a call or message. Thanks Denis Constant DTN 297-6236 OMER::Constant

119.1 | Well, here we are again... | GOBANG::LEMMER | Wed Mar 09 1994 11:56 | 23
Hi Dennis, here we are again... Fisher Control delivers it's own VME crate and backplane to theire customers. We only deliver KAV30's to them. The 'overlay' module you are talking about most likely is some sort of additional backplane which implements the VSB on the P2 connectors of this crate - therefore the name 'VSB overlay module'. Again, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, we -DEC- do not manufacture these modules nor do we sell it to anyone. As far as I know, we only deliver KAV30's to Fisher, but you should check this with Dave Savini at SOLVIT::SAVINI, he is the US product manager for the KAV30 and he might be able to tell you if he (or someone else in the US) sold anything else beside the KAV30 to Fisher. I know that SCHROFF manufactures and sells some 'VSB overlay modules', so you may give it at try and ask them if the numbers you found on the module do represent a valid SCHROFF option... Hope this helps! Thomas
119.2 | Thanks Thomas | OMER::CONSTANT | Wed Mar 09 1994 13:03 | 13
Hi Thomas, Thanks for the input. I have also heard from Don Ware who works in the CSS group that sold the systems to Fisher and his answer was the same. It appears to me that this customer is aware of Fisher owning it and can't get spare on their own. I think they may be using Digital to try and pick up spares for them? I will inform the customer to check with either Schroff or SUN which also makes an overlay module for P2. Thanks again for looking into it. Denis |
