116.1 | yes, but.... | GOBANG::LEMMER | | Thu Jan 27 1994 14:12 | 9 |

The KAV30 needs MOP for booting, which is - as I understand it -
not part of OSF/1. So you need to install DECnet/OSI in order to
have MOP, but you don't need to 'run' DECnet. If you have MOP
support on your OSF/1 machine, you can boot a KAV30 - we have
tested this and it works....

116.2 | run MOP without DECNET license? | MLN08::CASTELLUCCI | Aldo, TOEM Mktg Italy, 793-2292, @MLN | Thu Jan 27 1994 16:34 | 7 |

The first step of the customer is to have 20 systems
based on KAV30 and other 200 in the future, so his problem
is to NOT PAY 220 decnet licenses.
Does that mean that we can start MOP without paying the
DECNET license?

116.3 | DECnet license is there... | GOBANG::LEMMER | | Fri Jan 28 1994 11:12 | 6 |

mmhhh.., the KAV30 comes with an ELN runtime-license which has an
'intrinsic' DECnet license, so where is the problem ?

116.4 | no DECNET on DEC OSF/1 | MLN08::CASTELLUCCI | Aldo, TOEM Mktg Italy, 793-2292, @MLN | Fri Jan 28 1994 12:23 | 8 |

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding:
the customer doesn't like to pay a lot of decnet licenses
on DEC OSF/1 machine.
So the question is to boot the kav30 from the DEC OSF/1 machine
installing and/or paying the MOP kit without pay the license
of decnet on DEC OSF/1 system.

116.5 | talk to OSF... | GOBANG::LEMMER | | Fri Jan 28 1994 13:28 | 11 |

Well, thats beyond my knowledge, you need to contact the OSF
product mgmt. or to put a note into the OSF conference. Technically
it is possible, but I can't give an answer on the license
situation.
Selling 220 KAV30's sounds great, so I whish you good luck with the
OSF folks...
