91.0. "SCSI cable - KAV30 -> RZ23L " by MIACT::WALLACE () Thu Jun 03 1993 17:13

    A customer has bought a KAV30, VME crate, and RZ23L disk.

    One important bit was omitted - cable from KAV30 to SCSI disk drive
    connector.

    Is there a suggested cable, or documented pinouts, for the cable which
    goes from the KAV30 SCSI connector to the RZ23L drive connector ? (This
    drive is not in a DEC standard box so it doesn't have the usual big
    50way connector to plug into).

    I have looked in various places (KAV30 h/w docs, CDROM SCSI docs) but
    can't find anything I might class as definitive.

    All input gratefully received.

    regards
    john

91.1BAYERN::WOLFFConformism is for little minds.Fri Jun 04 1993 10:058
There is no std DEC cable which goes from the 50pin Honda connector (KAV30)
to a disk drive. The only cable we supply are the ones which go from the
KAV30 connector to "big" SCSI connectors.

The pinout of the SCSI connector of the KAV30 is in the hardware reference
manual in an appendix.

    Yep, I got the KAV30 pinout, thanks. BUT then I need the pinout for the
    connector on the RZ23L - or is it sufficiently obvious that anyone with
    any sense can work it out for themselves :-)

91.3Pinouts are specified by SCSI-2.BACHUS::BRST20::BRUSCHEWed Jun 09 1993 10:4812
	If both devices have a 50-pin Berg-type unshielded flat cable
	connector, they should have the same pinout.
	It's specified by the SCSI-2 ANSI specification section 4.3.1.2.

	You can find the pinout of other specified connectors in a Digital
	manual called : Small Computer System Interface , Developer's Guide.
			EK-SCSIS-SP

	It's a part of the regular VMS documentation set. (Also on DOC CDrom).

    OK, thanks, *that's* what I wanted ("if both connectors...")

    I had looked briefly at the SCSI docs on CDROM (it's great when someone
    on your LAN has a well-stocked Infoserver) but wasn't confident that it
    gave me the right answer.

    Now I *know* the answer.
