    Hi,

    I'm trying to upgrade a KAV30 from 4 MB to 16 MB.

I supposed that the only thing to do was to replace the piggy board.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work.

At boot time the test D now says D_.. instead of D..
When I run a VAXELN application in the board it only sees 4 MB.

The only documentation I have (bookreader) doesn't say anything about
this upgrade. I'm sure that the new piggy board has 4MBits chips while
    the old one has 1Mbits.

How can I tell the KAV30 that now it can use 16 MB ???

    					Thanks for any help

| Hi,
the upgrade from 4 to 16 Mbyte is officially not supported (it does
create service problems, you are changing the option without any
indication, so if your board breaks down and CS has to swap it, you
will get back a 4Mbyte module again... the memory board is not an FRU!)
	 - nevertheless it is technical possible (and may be done on a project
basis for selected customers, if you need this, contact me by mail).

Therefore the documentation does not talk about 'upgrading' the memory
	at all.
Jumper J4 ('reserved to DEC') has to be IN	with 4MB
							OUT "	16MB

Good luck!
	Thomas

| Thanks Thomas,

Sorry for the delay; I got the same information from another source and
the board can "see" now the 16 Mbytes.

The KAV30 is being used for demo purposes in our show room.
With 16 Mbytes I'm able to show Xwindows based applications running on it.

I got the 16 Mbytes upgrade for free so even if there are some risks in
doing the upgrade, the ratio advantages/risks is good enough for me ...
