87.0. "ASYNC DECnet on KAV30" by TRN01::SICUREZZA () Wed May 12 1993 15:02

    Hi,
a question to CROSBIE referring his answers on note 64 regarding DDCMP
    async support on KAV30,

what about DDCMP implementation on async ports?
I'm looking to connect as DECnet a PC to KAV30 avoiding ETHERNET
cable using async port on PC (supported) and serial port on KAV30.

    Any chances?

Thanks in advance, MARINO FORMIA DS-TURIN

Again, this is not really a KAV30 specific question, you may get a
better response from the VAXELN notesfile. However, VAXELN only supports
    DECnet over ethernet.

DDCMP is supported as a datalink level protocol. For a full
DECnet (Phase IV) implementation, you also need routing, NSP, and
session layers. In VAXELN these DECnet layers are implemented as
part of the ethernet drivers. DECnet under VAXELN provides Phase IV
end-node support only (i.e. no routing). To support Asynchronous
DECnet on a serial port it would be neccessary to implement
DECnet routing support for VAXELN as DDCMP is only a point to
    point protocol.

A more cost effective solution might be to buy an ethernet card
    for the PC.
