57.0. "FIFO's - Can a FIFO writer tell when an external FIFO is full?" by ZYDECO::BODA (Realtime Products Support) Tue Jun 09 1992 00:40
Hi,
Related to note 55, Applied Theory is still concerned with the use of FIFO's.
Is there a way for a system writing to a FIFO on a KAV to determine whether
the FIFO is full? (e.g., How can his Motorola 68020 tell if the KAV FIFO
is full? - This would also apply to KAV to KAV.) Is there perhaps a status
register he can check?
Unfortunately, he is not sure that using FIFO's will be suitable for him
since he needs an asynch two-way communication path. More offline.
Thanks,
Alan

| Hi Alan,
A write to a full fifo on the KAV30 from an external VMEbus device will
result in a bus error. In the case of the external device being another
KAV30 a %KAV30$_BUS_WRT_ERROR exception will occur.
