27.0. "break or not break" by SORGEN::HERMANN () Tue Oct 01 1991 10:33
there are (at least) 3 different ways to connect the console line to a
terminal :
1. video-terminal directly
2. terminal-server : set host/lat service-name
3. workstation (comm-port or printer port) : set host/dte device:
if connected to a workstation, you need to setup the characteristics as follows:
(thanks to alfons grammer)
$! setup_tta.com 22-MAY-1991 ag
$ set protection= wo:rw /device tta2:
$ set Terminal TTA2: /permanent -
/speed= 19200 /Tab /Eightbit /noBroadcast /Form /noAutobaud /noline -
/Numeric_Keypad /ANSI_CRT /NoEdit_mode
$ set protection= wo:rw /device tta3:
$ set Terminal TTA3: /permanent -
/speed= 9600 /Tab /Eightbit /noBroadcast /Form /noAutobaud /noline -
/Numeric_Keypad /ANSI_CRT /NoEdit_mode
$ type sys$input
to connect to console type
$ set host /dte tta2:
note, ^\ is ^4 on german keyboard
$ exit
both commands (set host/lat and set host/dte) allow to specify a /break=
break-character qualifier.
according to tests and measurements (thanks to thomas lemmer) a video-terminal
like the vt3xx sends a 280ms break while the vaxstation sends a 43 ms break-
signal.the rtvax-300 on a kav30 expects a 160 ms break.
this means you can "break" a rtvax-300 (if enabled on board) with a video-
terminal and a terminal server but not with a vaxstation using set host/dte.
i have no idea, whether the length of break is a "standard" or not or whether
the 43 ms of the vaxstation are generated hardware- or softwarewise.
perhaps someone else has some input?
