24.0. "KAV30 Performance ?? !!" by MGOI01::CSCHMIDT (Scio, Me Nil Scire) Fri Sep 06 1991 10:39

The KAV30 has been on the market long ehough now and I see increased
interest from OEMs and software houses.
Of course when I talk about ELN, I always tell them the benefits about
software development, high-level languages, the works.
The questions that are always being asked in a serious discussion are:

     - What are the numbers for Context switch, average and worst case

     - What are the numbers for interrupt latency, average and worst case

In a recent comparison of realtime Kernels on the VME, VAXELN was the
only one that didn't have numbers on these two questions.
Not being able to answer these questions is always a sign of weakness.

Somebody *has* to have made some test around this, but where is the
    data ??
Please make these numbers available, even if they look bad against OS9
    or pSOS data !!

For the context switching times look at a comparable processor in the
VAXELN relase notes. You will find that the VAX 3500 is this comparable
processor. There is lots of infomation about this processor in the
release notes.

We will make KAV30 specific performance data available in the
near future.

24.2Similar data is not exact !MGOI03::CSCHMIDTScio, Me Nil ScireTue Sep 10 1991 14:5815
Fine, the last sentence is exactly what I wanted to hear !!

BTW, I'm not a support specialist that has stacks of manuals at his
    desk.
I'm in sales and I have to sell the whole range of digital products as
well as specialize on the realtime parts.
You can imagine that I would be glad to have the information that's
necessary to sell the product, available with the product.

I'll probably find the context switch times, but there's the latency
part, which I think is dependant on the VME-Bus and therefore needs to
    be measured !

I'm eager to see the actual timing data for the complete system, not
    only a "similar" CPU chip.
