40.0. "Hello, is anyone there? Rick, Al..." by SDOGUS::BOYACK (I love Insane Diego!) Thu Sep 26 1991 20:54

    Boy this conference is very quiet... I wanted to enter an update about
    General Dynamics and also to ask a question. The question first: Hom
    many licenses of Euclid does DEC currently have installed and what
    sites are using them?

    Now the update: The partnership between Digital and GD (called IMS) is
    winding down. GD Convair currently has about 70 Euclid_IS licenses.
    Right now, our problems evolve around the business climate that GD
    faces. They are divesting their DSD (Data Systems Group) which provides
    much of the computer (also Euclid) support. Loss and scaling back of
    programs has hurt the bottom line and there has been little expansion
    in the past year. Many of the products that we (DEC) promised for
    concurrent engineering have been late or been canceled (COMPASS) and
    GD's belief in our ability to deliver as promised has withered. (Not
    that they have any $ to spend anyway). So, things are a general mess
    all around. We had a Program Director (Al Erny) who is leaving the
    program this month, and a dedicated sales rep (Bob Lavine) who is no
    longer assigned to support GD. Right now, funding for me to support GD
    has gone from 100% to 20%. So, basically everything is at a standstill.
    Now I report to Avi Lev at the AET DCC in Irvine, CA but I still live
    and work in San Diego. If anyone has any questions about the details
    feel free to call me at dtn 534-2776.

    regards (If anyone ever reads this)

40.1Eucild @ BXB2KEPNUT::OLSONThu Oct 10 1991 09:289
Hi Steve, It's been quiet because we are working hard. Euclid is running great
for us here in BXB2. We have 21 licenses and 23 users. We just installed 2.2B
on our system, lots of improvements and fixes. I think we are the only one's
left really using Euclid and being very successful. Other group's start to use
Euclid but with cut backs the group have disappeared.

40.2What's the definition of "mid"?SDOGUS::BOYACKI love Insane Diego!Tue Oct 15 1991 15:3718
    Hi Rick,

    Great to hear you guys are still having success...
    I just heard that Chic Shue left Matra to go work at Cray. Have you
    heard anything to confirm this? What else is coming down the pike
    lately?

    I keep hearing snippets about the project you guys are working on. I
    want you to know we are all cheering for you! Good luck! We need this
    baby to be a powerhouse!!!

    Steve

    ps/ Since you guys do "midrange", either "high-end" has been completely
    everwhelmed or else they must have a *monster* under development...
    I think you need to rename your group something *other* than "mid".

40.3BXB is itCUBICB::BARKERWed Oct 23 1991 11:1913
    We just got a note from Matra naming Frank Hover
    as the new North American Executive VP and manager.

    Yes BXB is now everything above the desk side. We should
    have enough computes available once the "new technology"
    shows up removing the point and link limitation in the
    data strucutre to put entire systems up in full detail
    in Euclid. No more large assembly hopefully.

    Stay tuned you should see a program announcement soon of
    the first Digital product to be designed exclusively in Euclid.

40.4concurrent engineering with Euclid/EDCS NO WAY?51107::POTTHASTTue Nov 12 1991 11:2311
    hi folks,

    realy not that busy this notes file. You spoke about success
    with EUCLID and problems with concurrent engineering (COMPASS)
    and EUCLID. That is my problem too. I'm responsible for BOSCH
    in all cases of datamanagement. They use heavily EDCS-II.
    And damned I can't find any good news about an existing
    interface using EDMF. Do you ???
